Clutch Master Cylinder Rebuild

I can't find a kit or parts on any of the big 3 websites. Anybody know what is needed to do the "10 minute" rebuild job? Any instructions anywhere?

If you've done the rebuild please post how it did and if it lasted very well.

Thanks!

All I've heard is that it's a real pain. Mine is leaking and I am having the local Porsche dealer take care of it for around $500. Pain is, I just had them put in a kevlar clutch and slave cylinder two months ago.

One of the usual suspects had instructions for it, but I don't remember who. All I remember is that the removal and installation is a PITA.

Try www.rockauto.com for the kit.

Hard to replace the unit. The trick is to rebuild from the inside of the car.

I replaced mine when the engine was out. Was still a PITA to get the bolts lined up.

BTDT. There are several write-ups on Greg Nichol's site.

I did the MC R&R on the GTS last summer. I don't think I've completely recovered from the experience; PITA does not describe the task adequately. There is one procedure that describes how to do the rebuild in-place by removing the guts of the old MC and replacing with guts from the new MC. Sounds messy. But, I'm going to try that method the next time.

I used a rebuild kit on my clutch master cylinder approximately 15000 miles ago, and haven't had any problems since. I did the process with the cylinder in-place, and it really wasn't that difficult. Here's the info for the kit:

Clutch Master Rebuild Kit
Raybestos P/N CMK1899

Hope that helps.
