Isn't the 2 1/4" top-mount depth too deep for the door?
On my S4 panel, I had to make spacer ring to mount JBL 4" separate woofer.
Haven't heard anyone who dislikes MB Quarts.

Check the depth of the 4" speaker carefully. The MB Ref. series are usually a little deeper than their middle of the line/base versions. Any more than about 2" depth and you will not be able to fit them in the door pocket without cutting metal or using a spacer(looks bad to me). MB Quarts are great speakers though.

If the depth of the speaker used is more than the 2" then you cannot do this though.

Why is everyone using MB quartz? I took them out of the 89. I will be trying to reuse them in the 78 as much as I can with the crossovers, etc, but in the 89, the new system will be something else like Polk or Infinity. I understand these brands and others like them to be far superior?

Thanks Dave.
Anyone else heard a difference?

I actually like all three brands......MBQ, Polk, and Infinity.......but have listened to all their comparable models next to each other and the MBs still get the nod. They are made extremely well with premium materials and components, are highly configurable, look fantastic in any car, and of course sound beautiful. Polks are about the same, but I still like the MBQs better. Infinity speakers for some reason always require tons of power to sound as good as the others.......no matter what their efficiency ratings would say.

I'd have to agree with Mike and Dave. MB Quart has been known for years to be among (if not THE) very best in high-end car audio. Focal is also top of the line, though a French brand, if that makes a difference. I have nothing against Polk (good American company), but that's what I have in my shark now, and they are among the worst I've heard (PO installed them). I'm hoping to do the MB Quart upgrade soon.
