I lowered my 928 flag today for some time of mourning...

There goes one of the nicest preserved low mileage original '89 GTs... I know you'll do a good job, Seth, but does it have to be on a such increasingly rare car?

As far as the intercooler goes, I would look at it as engine insurance.

The added cost is worth it, to have that extra margin of safety.

If I were you, I would use the Eaton, and use the extra $ you saved
to get an intercooler on there... That will also allow you to run more
boost, if you ever decide you want it...

Granted the intercooler is desirable. If I get the intercooler then we really aren't learning much about how the Stage 1 or 2 kits really work. I plan to monitor performance and safety data. If it doesn't tolerate the Nevada heat this coming open road race season, then no racing, get an intercooler. I will probably know before the first race. If the intercooler is needed then Andy shouldn't sell Stage 1 or 2 kit without it unless people are only putting around the neighborhood.

Yeah, I understand this. As Seth and I discussed, this kit is easily reversible.

Is that before or after it blows up? Just kidding...

Bill,
You don't need an intercooler at 5psi. I have over 20k mi on 2 test cars with 91 octane with 5-6psi non intercooled Jag/Eaton to prove it. If anyone tells you you do, put them on your ignore list because they are wasting your, my and every one elses time.
The Lingenfelter Z06 runs the M112 at 5.5psi with 10.5:1 compression with no IC.

Not preserved really be it is very nice! Preserved would mean putting the original wheels, mirrors, and spoiler back on the car. Look at it this way it is one of the nicest "upgraded" 89 GT's around, and a car such as that deserves more HP. MHO

Thanks, Shane, I obviously agree with you.

When I bought this car, it was bone stock, not a single upgrade. I loved the car b/c it was so clean and well kept, but I did not love the wheels, mirror or wing, or stereo. So I took them all into the present with upgrades. ALL of that is easily reversible.

The engine is great--for 1989. I want to be able to "run" with modern sports cars. In 1989 this thing was close to king of the street. 16 years later, its still right in the pack. We all know that I'll never be able to use this car's ability in present form--i've done enough track days to know my limits (mostly in a VERY modified Audi or in racing school).

Nicole, with you in the back of my mind and my conscience as well, I told Andy that we had to do this kit with not a single irreversible change to the engine bay. Not a single wire will be cut or change made that cannot be plugged back in to stock in a weekend. The next owner of this car can put it all back to perfect stock in one very long weekend, or a reasonable week of work except for one thing.....

I dynamatted the whole car for extra sound insulation. That stuff would be a b-itch to get off the car now. Its UNDER the carpet, so I think that the purists will never even know or care. I like it quieter in the car.

And Nicole, its not blowing up. Period. Surely someone of your knowledge knows that 5psi is not going to do anything to this car.

I'm already having fun with this!!!

I'll be at Sharks in the Park and giving rides.

I second the emotion expressed above. Unless you are willing to purchase all the 89 GT cars out there, your opinion is irrelevant.............This is an open forum so you are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to say that I think it is tedious............

Seth,

Good luck with the SC. Boosted shark power is FUN!

On the keeping it original front:

It is all reversible. Who are we "preserving" it for anyway? The next owner who will try and buy the car for as little as possible? I bought mine for me to enjoy, not the next owner!

On a side note, I think this will make 4 '89 GT's with SC's out there. Interesting percentage based on 60 or so in the US.

So it looks like both Bill and Seth will have newly minted Supermodels to make everyone drool at Sharks in the Park 05!!! I'll be there!!! Then I'll have to start saving money for a SC kit!!!

Gretch,

I believe one is in Colorado. Centrifical but not a Murf kit, and soon to have Seth's as number 4with a TS setup.

Andy:

I appreciate this and obviously I accept what you say. People are just showing their concern and maybe some healthy skepticism. None of them have been adament about it, so I don't take this negatively. It's a reasonable point for some discussion. I appreciate that you speak from a lot of direct experience as well as familiarity with similar setups.

You and others have driven the tar out of cars at 5lbs. with no IC with no problems. And that is the way I want to go. At the same time, I think the open road race events, with 100 miles or more at an AVERAGE speed of 145-150 MPH (or higher if I have a navigator) at high altitude in 95 degree heat is something that maybe only a few have done with this kind of setup. Maybe hundreds have done it. I just don't personally know. So, I'm going to do it and collect data and put this issue to bed.

Oh, and that last statement I made in my previous post about not selling kits w/o IC's was just a logic statement. I don't expect it. I didn't mean it to undermine your efforts and the value of your kit, but I can see how this might sound contentious.
