I'm still pretty new at this, but I believe that a manual trans comes at premium price over AT - a much as a few thousand (on a cherry s4). The manual trans is often the choice of enthusiasts and is rarer.

I 2nd Steve's post. I have owned several Autos, mainly because there were more available at a good price, but the next 928 I get, whenever that happens, will be a 5 spd, and I'll just haveto shell out a few bucks more than if it was an auto.

I would pay a premium for an auto - each to there own.

Jose,
The 928 is such a powerful car and was built for high speed long distance cruising. The Auto box is perfect for this car. I have driven both the five speed and the auto and there is no difference with the performance.
All three of my 928's are autos.
If I was buying a Boxster or a 911 I would have the stick shift as those cars are made for the manual gearbox.
If you are going to track your car you may prefer a stick.
For everyday driving the auto is by far better in this car.
Each to there own.
Best,
Roger

I would bet that most people would prefer manual, but many go with automatics due to greater availability.
In traffic, I wish mine were an automatic, elsewhere I am happy. Same would apply to an S4.

I have both, and I agree with James that the auto is better in traffic, but the majority of the time, I'm on the interstate( 100 miles daily) and above 70 there's no appreciable difference. PS, my wife drives the hell out of the auto (118 max speed on the gps) and has yet to sit in the driver's seat on the 5 spd. Ed M
