If you are interested in computer aided design (cad) click into this link http://www.solidworks.com/pages/succ...nContests.html - then select SolidWorks Design Contest for Commercial Customers .........then review the 2004 winners .This program allows you to "draw" very complex items very easily paint color texture plus you can rotate the model in all directions .....when you like what you have created it can be downloaded to a computer controlled Machine and it will make what you designed ......like a wheel out of a block of aluminum.

I have an "unnoficial" version of 2004 Solidworks Office, COOL program!

I guess I need to get a sticky thread from the moderator and start a group buy or something. Unless we get some more interest in these things, we may not be able to do it. The one thing that really sucks about production, if you can make at least a thousand units, it's too expensive. Let's see what we can do to get some more people in on this!

Sharky, I'll jump in for one set of the new S4-style cam cover bolts.

Alright, how many owners of the MY85-86 with these fasteners have removed their cam covers for refinihsing and gasketing and have NOT broken any? I would like to do mine, but if the tendency is that at least one will break causing a pulling of the engine to repair, I think I'll pass until I get an oil leak that is unbearable. The intake manifold pretty much hides the cam covers anyway. Sharky, any idea of the cost to manufacture these yet? Thanks, Glen

This is a much needed item, and a good thread.

I do not know if you guys covered it already or not, but I saw somebody ask for this part in Stainless Steel. Sharkey, as a machinist, can tell you all about the difficulties machining stainless, but I also wanted to add it's low strength in shear characteristics.

You do not want that part in Stainless Steel. Sharkey can guide you to a good, tough-yet-machinable alloy you can use - coat the threads with anti-sieze compund when you install them and you will be fine.

Of course, cut threads will not be as strong as rolled threads - but for this applicattion, cut threads will be more than strong enough. And this part, with that secondary shoulder setup, would be nuts in $$$ with rolled threads.

Sharkey - thanks for your offer and assistance from all of us!

I havn't forgotten, will sit down with the bossman and discuss it further.

I told him that if he orders were a little lacking that I would buy a bunch, I have a 944S that uses thoses fasteners. I have broken one and had to pay $22 for a stinkin bolt so I know how it is. I will keep everyone updated when I find something out.

"Alright, how many owners of the MY85-86 with these fasteners have removed their cam covers for refinihsing and gasketing and have NOT broken any?"

When removing my cam covers for new gasket / cam cover plugs and powder coating the cam cover spacers seem in very good shape. They threaded in and out with no problems.

That being said I'd order a set of the new one's if the price was right ...for next time

Mine were removed by the mechanic who replaced my valve covers last summer without incident. However, he warned me of the potential problem before he started. I would buy a set ..."just-in-case". Sooner or later the valve cover gaskets will leak again and the upgarde would make perfect sense at that time.
