Default article in Excellence

so I picked up April Excellence, mostly due to an article titled -
Market Update: 924, 944 968...
and I quote:
"The first and last front-engined Porsches - and those that came in between..."

no mention of the 928 anywhere... he specifically mentions the 924 being the 1st car that Porsche put the rear transaxle in...
hmmm... editorial time

924 beat 928 to stores even though 928 development started earlier. 968 lasted year longer than 928. Technically they are correct. Now if they would just correct mistakes from their 928 yearly market update.

Technically I believe everything he said is correct. While the 928 was under development first, the 924 came out as a 1976 model, 2 years prior to the 928. The 968 was produced until 1995, the same as the last year of the 928. They probably didn't mention the 928 because the market report for the 928 gets its own coverage every year in the November issue.

Wasn't 968's last year '96, in Europe at least?

Not a big deal. I've corresponded with the author in the past and he wasn't anti-928 at all. They give the 928 its own market update, and the quality of it has risen substantially over the past 5 years.

I don't read Excellence enough I guess, I just don't see many 928 related articles..
he shows 924 as coming out in '77 and 968 ending production in '95
guess I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and wait for the 928 market report

Isn't the Cayenne front-engined??? I guess it doesn't count either.

They used to recycle those articles over and over again - this one might still be based on one that was written long before the Cayenne came out.

You would think they would at least update anything that's happened since recycling the article, though. Especially since that new Cayenne Bi-Turbo is so darn fast. 0-60 in 4 seconds, 750hp, top speed of 195mph. Just what you always wanted...mini-van mom with 3-4 screaming kiddos, cell phone plugged in the ear, 1 hand feeding the baby, the other reaching for the kid who got loose in a rocket behind you on the highway.

John yes, but the tractor and steam engine are also front-engined Porsches .... Peronally I do not think the Cayenne qualifies as a "front-engined Porsche" in the sense that Rixter mentions the article says. Cayenne is a Porsche and a beast, but it is a truck. So, in listing values of OLD, CLASSIC PORSCHES, do we even think of the brand new truck or the tractor or the steam engine or the several VW Variants Porsche made, or hey how about the Merc 500E (is that it?) .... nah. I am happy with the designation as given

And speaking of cats, where were the engines on the Tiger and Leopard tanks? There was no Hobbes tank, right?

IIRC the last year of production was 1995.

The Tiger, like most tanks, is mid-engined - more or less. If the Tiger had axles, the engine would be between the front-most and rear-most.
