saw a '79 928 for sale- UPDATED- $3500
If anyone's interested, I saw a '79 928 for sale here in UT yesterday.
My take:
repaint- black. Looked pretty good. Some new window seals.
interior- saddle. okay condition.
manual trans.
missing rear wiper.
rear spoiler- no
front spoiler- no
newer tires.
7-slot polished wheels
109,000 mi
needs TB work, I wouldn't drive it w/ belt in current condition.
Price seems high at $6k. Dealer has it on consignment. I know they turned down $4500, but you never know... I'll try to get owner's info too.
PM me if you want the dealer's info.
no affiliation.

update:
I talked w/ the owner. It seems that the dealer to whom he consigned the car is a little optimistic about the car's value. The owner said he'd take $3500.
He's had the car for 2 years and has barely driven it. Mileage is actually under 100k (I misquoted earlier).
He's put in a stereo, put tires and wheels on and painted the car. He owns a car detail shop, so painting is his business, and as I noted the black actually looked pretty good. The car has been "serviced" by a VW tech.
My recommendation, if anyone is interested, is that I can take some pics and post them or email them. I'd recommend having Dave or Garrity do an onsite PPI because as I noted I'd be concerned about driving the car- a fact I told the owner.
So, for $3500?
He knows nothing about Porsches.

Andy, as noted, the paint looks good due to respray. It needs a service: tune-up, TB/WP etc. A cursory look @ the brakes revealed no issues. Interior shows its age, but I've seen worse in newer cars for sure. Owner says it runs well, has no issues he's aware of but then he knows nothing. He paid $4k 2 years ago and has since done the paint, stereo and wheels/tires and "service".
Might be a fun track car or project car.
If you're around later today, give a call and we'll go look at it. It's right near my house in Draper. My afternoon is open until about 5:30 when I have pick the kids up.
edit: it would certainly be worth the $65 or so to have Dave or Garrity give it a once over...

Sorry guys, I just spoke with the gentleman that purchased it. I will get his info to you for the club roster soon. He has dreams of grandeur, high horsepower and maximum handling. We'll see how far he wants to go.........

Dave...."He has dreams of grandeur, high horsepower and maximum handling. We'll see how far he wants to go........." Well stated the $3,500 was just the cover charge and does not get you drinks or dinner. Starting out with a 273 cubic inch engine early brakes suspension makes for a very ,very long road. I am sure you will be able to enlighten him. Get him some wheels quick.......before anything breaks Our Eibach springs retail at $295 a set of four that would get him a long way toward maximum handling at a reasonable expense. Hopefully he got lucky and it is a decent car. I do know of one customer who spent about $25,000 on his 79 , and a Euro 84 which ended up with a GTS engine so you never know how much someone wants their dream realized.

Hey Jim!
I have used a few sets of the Eibach's for customer's cars but much prefer a fixed rate spring rather than a progressive. I have Weltmiester's on both my cars but may be switching to HyperCoil's soon. (since Welt's are no longer available) I tend to like my car a bit stiffer than most I guess.
We have a customer's Gemballa 85' Euro that now has Twin Turbo brakes front and rear, GT2 wheels, Bilstein/Eibach's, 996 seats, 930 steering wheel and have just aquired the cores to convert it to a 5-speed and a 6.1L 32V with 11# of boost. He may soon hold the record for money spent. It's going to be a nice one!
