Central Locking and Alarm - What's Normal?

Maybe these items are supposed to be like this. I'm too new to know.

- My central locking light is off when my headlights are off and on when they are on. It does not go on or off in response to activationg or deactivating the locks.

- My alarm goes off when I open the hatch while the doors are locked. I use the alarm key to open it. I have to unlock a door with the key to turn it off. Normal?

The Central Lock light has 2 intensities, one is for illumination when lights are on, the other mode when doors are locked is MUCH brighter. Either the bulb is partially bad, dirty connection, or there is an issue with getting the "locked" signal to the bulb.

Remove the 2 allen bolts and pull the upper lock assembly down and out, if it has a wire coming out of it you have an alarm hatch lock and it could be unplugged or malfunctioning. If there is no wire coming out of the lock, then someone has replaced the original with the cheaper "non-alarm" version (very common). FYI, this only applies if we are talking about a factory alarm system.

No it is not normal. Your alarm should only beep once when you unlock your hatch just to let you know it was deactivated. You should be able to activate & deactivate your door locks with the red button on the center console. If your hatch is not latched all the way it will make the red light go on and off. You might want to check the hatch.

Yeah, like Jim said... Pizza, you must have an aftermarket alarm as the factory alarm does not 'beep'.

It makes one beep, chirp, honk whatever once I turn the key to open the back hatch after the doors are locked with my long key. This is not normal?

Uh, no...

Thanks all. I will take a look at the upper latch part of the hatch. I think I remember seeing an unplugged plug in that neighboorhood when I was fixing the hatch release. The good news is my central locking problem is solved and all is well with that.

Whats normal? It malfunctions and your car starts honking at you in the middle of the Sonoma square with your wife (and half or the Porsche sponsored Sonoma film festival crowd) looking on with that " you are *such* a dork" look. :roflmao:

Step one: Remove the aftermarket alarm and beat it to pieces with a tire iron.

Step two: Use Jim's jumper trick to remove the factory one from your life forever.

Step three: Try and convince the wife unit ti go anywhere in the 928 again ;)
