Some pics from last nights thrashing
The car was originally in Texas. I can only assume it was driven with the windows down through dust storms for its entire stay there until it was moved to CT where it was let to sit in a salt laden state.
Oh, and somehow, ALOT of heat was in t he engine bay and front under area, which melted the fire wall rubber, and the rubber on the floorboards. I ripped the entire loom out (sans the engine loom - thats today). I will replace it with an 18 channel kit from summit with only the important stuff. Signals, Lights, AC, heater stuff. And a big radio and... I always seem to get a 928 to this stage. All three have been in this stage at one point or another. But this one is a simple rouch resto, so no kid gloves and polsihed aluminum. Well, maybe some on the center console. Engine is almost ready to go in, and I will clean the interior wilth a wire brush, spirits, and a scraper, and install the raamat sound deadening material. Then rewire enough to make it legal. The fuel and ignition is handled by MEGAsquirt, so may not even need the 18channel from summit. Maybe the 12 channel. Switching to power doorlocks, so I guess maybe I will need more circuits. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/interior_red1.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/interior_red2.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/interior_red3.jpg |
thats dedication..

That makes me feel tired just looking at it. Lotta work to be done there.
|
Brendan,
Is that the car parked at Chris's? Steve |
It is Steve. I gotta go there and clean up the mud and dirt INSIDE the car so I can coat it and recover it all and then lay the wires. I'm seriously thinking of a pressure washer INSIDE the car if I can cover the dash up correctly.
|
That glove box door is pretty cool. The dash and that door are original... I think. Its amazing that they are not ruined.
|
I did not folloow the story of this car, but it must be an '83 or earlier with manual transmission, because of the body's narrow transmission housing... Later cars ALL had the larger housing that would acommodate the auto transmission's torque onverter.

78. It is a very different car then the other years.

Branden,
I'm scheduled to swap some parts on my S-4 will another Rennlister tonight, but he has not called me yet. If he does not call and you need some help tonight, let me know. I live over the hill in Scripps Ranch. Steve |
The interior looks exactly like my 79 - torn up, dirty, rusty with spaghetti wiring everywhere.
|
Brandeen,
Just got a call from the fellow Rennlister who's going to help me out tonight. If you need some help tomorrow night or this weekend, let me know. Now that the GF is gone, I've got some extra time. Steve |
Man that is sad Brendan - definitely look forward to seeing before and aft pictures. It is totally beyond my comprehension how someone could let that happen to one of these cars.
|
Looks kinda daunting to me.
Regards, |
Am I the only one that noticed the wire snippers in two of the three photos? Prophetic? 928 owners best friend.....
