Looking for S-4 in San Diego for computer and mass flow test swap.
Is there anyone in San Diego with an S-4 that would let me swap their computer and mass flow sensor as a test of mine? I still cannot get my car to run and would like to narrow down the possible problems. I'll buy you dinner. If you're female and available, I even throw in a couple of drinks and a ride - In my Porsche of course.

Steve:
Where are you? I have an '88. I seem to recall that there is some difference between the '87 and the '88? Maybe John Speake or someone else can clarify.
I live and work near/around UTC/Carmel Valley. I won't be able to help this weekend, but maybe sometime during next week or weekend if you can wait that long.
Maybe someone else who's local can help out sooner.
Your offer for compensation is generous, but unnecessary. I'm happy to repay others' kindness to me by perpetuating an act of kindness of my own.

Thanks Brian,
I'll let you know. I purchased a new fuel pressure regulator and will try that tonight. If that does not work, I'll take you up on your offer unless someone else can do it this weekend. I live in Scripps Ranch, but the car is in my fathers garage out near El Cajon.
Thanks,
Steve

Thanks Andy, I think! All I need in my life right now is lust for more power. I just got rid of my girlfriend yesterday, and I'm looking forward to a cheap Valentines day this year. Now, while the last love is still fresh in my mind, you want me to fall in love again so soon!

Any 87-91 S4/GT is a suitable candidate for the swap.
Steve - so unplugging the MAF did not allow the car to start and run any better? Hmmmm... Still worth the swap try, but makes it less likely.

Bill,
The car runs the same with or without the MAF connected. Because the car sat for 10 years I went ahead and ordered a new fuel pressure regulator. I'll put it in the car tonight and give it a try. I tested for vacuum leaks and found none. If the new regulator does not work, the problem has got to be either the MAF of computer. Between the sht I've been going through with my girlfriend and this car, I think I'm going to go insane.

You need another set of hands and eyes. Sometimes it's the alternative viewpoint that finds the problem you could not see. We worked on a local non-starting 928 last weekend and never found exactly what was causing the problem, but with some persistence, it started, ran poorly, then eventually, after an Italian tune-up was purring like a kitten.

Good friend of mine from New Zealand they raced sidecar bikes on short flat dirt tracks.....They used to say "If it has **** or wheels it will give you trouble " Not that I would say such a sexist thing I have owned more cars than I have had wives (3) , but I have test driven a lot of other.... cars too.

Jim,
Dealing with cars or bikes is never a problem because I know that ultimately they will always bring me joy. Something I've never been able to say about the women in my life. This last one got caught yesterday, as the late great Hendrix sang, mess with another man. To bad, really loved her, and she tolerated my toys.
