Default Are Yokohama AVS db Tires the Quietest?

Is anyone using Yokohama AVS db tires? Do they run as quiet as some claim? If so, with my luck, they're probably not available Z-rated and/or won't fit my Cup I wheels. Before I spend time researching them, I though I check on the road noise thing. That drives me nuts since it helps overshadow the the nice RMB sound.

I have AVS sports that are fairly quiet. Never heard of db - is that db as in decibel?

"db"....that's just the was it was explained to me. Don't know if that's part of the name or style but I suspect it just refers to decibel as you surmise. It would be nice to have a relatively quiet Z-rated tire but I think the two terms are mutually exclusive. I've been told that tires may be one or the other...but not both. On my rigs I have Pilot Sports and Bridgestone S-03s...and neither are quiet as I'd hoped for. Just looking for alternatives that are quieter.

Harvey,
Go to the tire rack site, tirerack.com, you can enter your tire size and select only yokohama tires. It will tell you if they make it in your size and you can look at both survey info that includes a noise rating as well as look at owner reviews of the tire. Great info.

Harvey,
Those were on my GTS when I bought it and they were so loud I had to change them pronto.
On the other hand they are on my S4 and sound normal.
I did hear they get louder with wear.

DO NOT BUY YOKAHAMA AVS!!!! I bought a set from Discount Tires for my AMG SLK... the handling went in the toilet, but the tires were super quiet... at least for the next 4,000 miles, then they became VERY NOISY! What did Discount tires do? They said there was a known design flaw and they were willing to give mew new tires every 4,000 miles for $50.00 each. I've since trashed the tires and will never buy Yokahama again... ever!

I agree with the last two guys. Fullset on my car and they are waaay quieter than the Pirellis I replaced. Handle great too! Best part is they arent expensive.

WHAT? WHAT DID YOU SAY? WHAT???? Oh sorry, someone just drove by on a set of Yoko AVS. I had the Yoko's just recently and man were they loud!!! Good tires, just really noisey. I currently run Kumo's. Very quite and handle great for my driving style. Lots of good tires out there depending on your style, road conditions in your area, etc..... You won't be able to hear your RMB because of the tire niose from Yoko's.(just a slight exaggeration, but only slight) You know what they say, Opinions and a_ _ holes, everybody has one.

May be it's the type of road these tires are on to create such noise.

I've been using the Yokohama AVS db for 2 years now. Great tire, quiet and handles great. I don't drive in the rain thou. Got them from the tire rack.
What I found is the average tire guy does not know how to high speed balance a tire. Let alone tire road force. Find a good shop with new tire equipment.

many of us sure have interesting and totally opposite opinions on Yoko's...

I had Eagle F1's on when I bought the car and when travelling on the concrete (vs. the ashphalt) Interstate, they were VERY noisy. The tires were only about 5000 miles 'old'. I happened to have an issue with a pothole which wrecked both sidewalls on the passenger's side and had to switch tires because Goodyear couldn't find rear's in my size anywhere in the US. Anyways, I ended up going with Yoko AVS 100's and they are MUCH quieter than the Eagle F1's...

My 2 cents of course...

I'll second that on the Eagle F1 GS-D3's. I actually pulled over on shoulder of a very long concrete bridge because I thought I blew a tire. Turns out it was the norm for the F1's when you are off a perfectly smooth asphalt road. Even on perfectly smooth roads, the F1's were just too loud at lower speeds. I couldn't stand those tires. I switched to Kumho 712's and they were very quiet, lots of grip, and rode very nicely. I don't know if I'd use these for a street/autocross tire but they are the best darn all around high performance street tire I've run on a daily driven car.

Ditto! Love my Kuhmos. Uni-directional front and bi-directional back. 280 treadwear front, 420 treadwear in back, great handling and very quiet and great price. Wouldn't do it from discount tire again, though. They can't balance them worth beans so I had to pay to have them properly balanced somewhere else.
