A feckless tire smoke video.

I can fry both tire in a straight line. Slightest corner, or accelerating hard out of the work parking lot to beat a car through a cool set of esses on the way home and the inside tire goes up in smoke. Entertaining to be sure but not the fast way around the twistys.

Having watched Andy smoke the right rear tire from corner to corner at the Streets of Willow I can assure you he needs a limited slip.......... now that I think of it ,I think he was running on MY rear 17 inch wheels street tires .....that was my tire going up in smoke at Willow last year!!

Mads first of all your 89 At normally starts out in second gear, secondly you have big (tall) wide tires and limited slip, third the torque convertor engages at engine RPM of about 1,800 to 2,000 RPM so the engine is nowhere near it's power peak. To achieve a good burn out with the appropriate tire smoke try manually shifting into 2 left foot brake then quickly bring the engine speed up to about 3,500 rpm as you simultaneously release the brake and floor the gas pedal . ......... And yes it is possible your car is not running as well as it should.......try an open road test of 0-100 mph it should take about 14 seconds..be safe and do not get caught.

when I drove PJ's car back from san diego, i had to stop at a gas station to fill up the tank. i think i tried launching from a light, and the only way it would really spin the tires much was to load the torque converter using the method Jim described.
i know with my 5spd, even before the SC, it was really easy to spin the tires... i learned how to drive 5spd on this car, and believe me - i'm sure i scared the crap out of some people in traffic when i accidently dropped the clutch too fast or put too much gas in.

With the twin screw and a higher stall converter, I can take my foot completely off the brake and simply mashing the gas with the car in "2" is enough to light 'em up. But it definitely increases the 0-60 time on the G-tech Pro (no logs from me). In the limited # of times I've tried, the best I've seen is 5.13. Biggest problem seems to be minimizing slip at launch. I don't know if I can overcome the problem of adhesion to get into the fours. I'm running the new Bridgstone RExxx (730? 750?)in 275/40/17s, and making around 7psi of boost w/ stock exhaust except for RMB which seems to confer no HP gain. Oh, and I'm sucking in warm air from the engine compartment, haven't yet routed the intake air in front of the radiator--there should be more gains to be had.
Andy should be commended. I had a huge amount of anxiety about the reliability of this project, since I spent so much money on getting the car fixed after shearing a cam gear. Once I get the lower FPR on this weekend, it should be dialed in just about perfectly and I haven't had a single problem. While only a few thousand miles may be premature to draw any conclusions, it has been great fun and I'm gaining confidence. Now the biggest disappointment is the restraint I have to exercise re: having a very fast car on very congested highways. However, I am beating the on ramps into submission daily.
THANK YOU ANDY KEEL!

unfortunately, doing good 0-60 times takes a few tries to get a technique down. i started doing 5.4 second 0-60s in my car, then got to 5.2 with some practice. So far, my most recent best time is 4.99. Its all in the launch
