Window regulator repair
The nylon roller that connects the window to the regulator arm has shattered on my 81 928. Has anyone found a good source for a replacement roller and pivot pin, short of buying a complete new regulator assy?

Hi Neil,
The Window roller is Part # 928.537.918.00 and we sell them for $1.78
The Rivet you need to install it is Part # 928.537.917.00 and we sell it for $3.53
Both are normally in stock for same day shipping.

Just called local Porsche dealer ( Hennessy) and they will order parts in for me, 2 days under 6 bucks (+ tax) for both roller and rivet. Can't beat that, and no shipping costs.

OH....That is LOW....DR gives you the part #s and you go get them from the dealer. If you like the info you get here, try supporting the people that give it so freely. Just my 02.

Don't be so harsh on Neil!
I can certainly understand what he did. Yes, we want to sell parts, but we don't want to rip someone off, even unintentionally. David's advice - and mine - is freely offered on this and other forums, and Neil was under no obligation in this case to buy from us. There is no reason for him to spend almost twice as much (including shipping) for the same parts. I hope that he will remember us when it comes time to buy something bigger than what he needed this time.

Just for the record I don't have a problem with what Neil did either. I wish I had a dollar for every time I have given my fellow 928ers (that called me specifically to buy the part) the part numbers and told them to call the dealer as the shipping from me would cost more than the parts at the dealer. Most decline to do this, but we have always done our best to get 928ers the best deal on parts... even if it comes from someone else. This is what friends do for each other where I come from.
The ONLY problem I have ever had with this situation is the fact that if most of these guys had walked into a dealer and asked them to sell them the parts to fix their broken regulator the dealer (9 times out of 10) will sell them the complete regulator instead of the $5 parts to fix it. The only way I ever feel comfortable sending a friend to (most) dealers is to arm them with the knowledge of the proper parts they need.
An extreme example was a guy that took his car to the dealer and complained about his shifter popping out of gear. The Dealer took his 928 into the service bay , keep it for a week, told him they had to install a new Torque Tube Assembly to fix the problem and charged him approx $3000+.... I later heard them bragging ( I have incredible hearing, ask Jeannie) about the profit that was made by just installing a shifter ball cup!!!
Information is always the most important "tool" to properly maintain your 928 without being taken to the bank! And as Wally said we are always happy to freely spread that information to anyone and they can use it however they please.
AND, as Wally always says, "if the information is wrong or doesn't work for you ... we will gladly refund what you paid for it" :-)

I hear everyones comments, if the part had been more than a few bucks i would have gone to DR for them, but i'm sure he won't miss to many meals for $6 !!! I called my dealer and asked if he had the parts without giving him the sku's and he did find them after some searching, anyway. He read back the numbers, i compared them to DR's and said Ok, get them.
BTW, 928 intl wants $20 for them, so why not shop around, we all pay enough markup on the big items we buy anyway!

Interesting, their 2004 catalog ( volumn 13) lists part WRK, Window Roller Kit @ $20, and so did the website when i checked it yesterday! Thats why I didn't call them, as i figured it was over priced!
Competition is great!
