My [current] take on the intake tubes. These are MB 560 intake parts- you'll need four to do what I did. The flex portions under the strut tie bar are original equipment, used here to connect the sections together.
-My idea is to get chrome or stainless tubes of about that diameter, lined with foam, in place of what I currently have. Black or red silicone connectors with metallic intake tubes would look hot!

What you have right now is pretty efficient. Metal with foam would look cool. I don't think the temperatures are high enough to make use of black body radiation / absorption principles.
