Default Window Rattle

How many shark owners have driver or passenger side windows that rattle when partially down or skip and wobble when going up and down?

My '87 S4 driver window wabbled a bit, so I replaced the two plastic window guide assemblies that hold the window in place. There are no channels for the windows as they go down, there is only a single pole with two driver window guides PN 928.537.259.02 and 928.537.289.02 for the S4. While you're in there, you might replace the felt guides at the top too.

My window is tight as new now, a pleasure to drive with the window down a bit ... no more rattle when closing the door.

Also overlooked is the bottom piece that holds the metal guide rod (pole) in place. It can deteriorate and cause the rod to rattle around. BTDT.

Me! ...drivers side. On the "fix" list for spring.
Thanks for the description and details. It helps for mental and physical preparation before the procedure.

Sometimes you can simplify the rattle fix. Remove the centre door panel above the arm rest (remove screw holding release handle escutcheon), lower glass until you can see nylon guide on post. If its loose, run a cable tie around the guide and post, and tighten just enough to remove slop. COurtesy Captn Earl.

The tip from Capt'n Earl should be to insert cable ties around the plastic guide, so that they act as shims between the guide and the post...

I can speak to the zip-tie quick fix- It definitely helps the situation. I used three smaller ties to shim in just the right spots. I noticed one had worn through recently, after two months or more in steady service. No prob, I got bags of them!
