Bill & George
ORR must be one hell of a rush!!! One day I have to check one out! Sure its dangerous, but so is just driving to the grocery store.....life is about living it & living it in a 928 at 160+....it doesn't get much better than that!

Thilo,

OK, now I get the point. 145 mpg would be an amazing feat while going 145 mph.
Sad to say, I was only get 7-8 mpg at the time.

Fascinating video George!

That sort of racing must be a hell of a rush- I bet you guys are totally worn out after a day of doing that stuff.

As to danger... this sort of racing is probably perfectly safe. It's only dangerous when something goes wrong.

N!

You tend to have a lot of energy for a while when you first get out of the car. The banquet is usually when some people start showing how tired they are. I try to catch a nap between so I can enjoy the show.

I feel safer doing ORR than driving on the highway. No oncoming idiots, no-one trying to slow traffic down to their percieved safe speed, safety personell at the close and ready. So we're going fast, not faster than we think we can run, or our cars have been teched to do. Think of it, no soccer moms on the phone doing 60/90 in the fast lane.

George missed the 1st leg down in the Pony, rain, lightning, crickets, birds eating crickets, slow mustang drivers, a mute navigator, all kinds of hazards. I'm really suprised I got a third out of it. The bridge that was marked by orange cones just before where George pulled off is known for inducing daylight between the tires and the ground. Not too much fun at speed, at least it's straight........

The 928 is one of the best suited cars for ORR. I think it's something everyone should do at least once in their lives (or once a month during the summer!). Don't waste your time, there are forces trying to subdue this type of racing and it may not be around forever.

Dave
