1985 Porsche 928s project is about to start (HELP!)

Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Rixter, Stan and Jim, I'll be bugging you quite a bit I think not to mention the "Big" 3's" On to the scoop. I won the auction on the 1985 928s. I am trying to cover my bases one step at a time. I have contacted transporters and the best price is $695.00 door to door. Which get's me in at about $2300, YIPPIE!!!!! That leaves me w/a few $'s for documentation.. Of which I know I will need a LOT.

My shopping list is far from complete though. This is where I need some help so anyone please pipe in.

The '83-'86 seam to have a lot in common, HOWEVER the engines seem to vary. Some '85's seem to be the older for lack of better term "spider" injection manifolds and others have what I would call a side to side. Why is that? I would think that all U.S. 85's would be the same.

What is the difference between them? I want to make sure that I am getting the right start and purchasing the info for the car that I bought as I don't need a library, just some help and some hope...

84-86 Euro 4.7 liter 16 valve 310Hp engines with dual distributers have spiders like the early US cars.

85-86 US 5.0 32valve 288Hp engines have "side to side" intakes

I guess that means that I am looking for an 85-86 US 5.0 32v manual then. I had seen that the 32v was on one of the photos that the seller had sent me. I guess that i am just confused as to the years and engine variations. Some subtle some not.

Thank you Shane, I at least have a start...

I need to find out where you guys get your cars! "Stole a 87 S4"

THERE's two '85's:

1. Yours: 288 hp, 32 valves, stud heads. 240 hp at the tires/290 crank. WPOJBO92Z says the first 6 letters of your VIN on your registration.

2. Mine: Gray market import, 16 valves, 275 hp tires/ 330 crank.. WPOZZZ92Z and NO emissions = Nextel Cup Exhaust sound, and 13 second quarters...........

N!

How do you pass smog with yours?

Michael, my phone freaked out and lost all numbers for the last day or so. Call me, and I can help out with the manual and some parts info.

Michael, I'm up your way every 4-6 weeks and can make special trips for parts/projects, also note DonT is in MD and may be willing to help you out as well
I see so many cars for sale, can you refresh us on which one you purchased? would help a lot

Well, this isn's such a good start, the "seller" is requesting the full payment in advance of delivery. I have offered him 50% now and 50% on delivery day and he is not being to receptive to the idea.

I am neadless to say RELUCTANT to give any one more than about a pocketfull of change in advance for possibly just a few ebay photos.

I would think that anyone selling any large $ item (more than lets say $100) would be willing to work with, and understand the reasoning behind a deposit to hold in good faith? Any comments areappreciated.

As I put in my first post (Get it in the door THEN I am an owner)

Michael;

Be VERY careful of this dude!

He just emailed me this morning and offered the car to me. Hummmm? Maybe why it's been on Ebay 4 times now.

Did he give you the second chance offer?

I didn't think that I was bidding against another Rennlist member, damn, sorry about that.
