Default What oil in gearbox is best?

What oil should I use in my gearbox?
It is a 1990GT and has PSD, do I need any addins for the differential lock?

Cheers/Peter

I'm trying out Royal Purple - all the necessary certifications - additives for limited slip already in there.

First track event - five 20 minute sessions, my transmission shifted like silk each time. This on an US 81 with 93,000 mile original syncro's. I'm not trying to pass it off as "the best" but so far so good in my car.

Every time I see that avatar, HP, I start laughing. The expressions on their faces... the man and the dog both... you're killing me here.

i switched out my incredibly old oil from the PO to new M1 synth, but didn't notice a whole lot of difference.

I think I want to try RP just for kicks... maybe i'll get lucky and have as good of results as HP

Thaddeus,

Where do you get your great art work from? I like it but I think it would haunt my wife....on second thought....maybe that's not a bad idea!

The Redline is highly touted. It has a buffer or something in it that's supposed to be real good.

In some of my previous cars I have had good luck with Redline transmission oil. Specifically the car had a balky third gear syncro under full throttle upshifts...after putting in the Redline it shifted smoother and the balky third gear was back to normal!

Corvette Sports in Sheboygan Falls, WI. They stock the gear lube, use it on most newer Corvette's. I don't know what they charge per bottle since I also picked up two cases of RP oil at the same time. I didn't bother to break it down. 920-467-2833, if your not too far from Sheboygan, it's worth stopping in. They always have beautiful 60's Corvette's in various stages of restoration. The owner and my father have known each other since the early 70's. Tell them you talked to Erik.

Anybody using Swepco? This is something I'm about to have done and would like to here some comparisons. I have used Royal Purple Motor oil and have always heard great things about their products.

I switched to Swepco in my 83 euro S. I can't say I could tell much difference. I think I am going to try some amsoil in there next change. I have heard that it will make a marked difference in the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Even when cold they are supposedly much smoother. My car has a very recently rebuilt trans so I don't have problems with the synchros, but the shifting is still kind of notchy. I thought the swepco would help that, but it hasn't seemed to.
YMMV

Cheers

Has anybody tried Amsoil 75w-90? I had the Redline in my previous '87 w/ LSD and it seemed to be pretty good stuff. But I'm going to try the Amsoil this time.
