Default What does a good hatch latch look like?

I'm not sure if mine is worn, or made that way..... but i can't get it to really latch.

I adjust the spacing (shims) and placement (fore/aft) of the striker plate/receptacle, but never get more than a little-bit of "catch."

I see new latches available from the Big 3, but won't that mean that the key won't match? That would be a bummer...

So.. can anyone tell me if this latch is normal and useable, or just plain worn out?

thanks!
