Antifreeze leak **UPDATED** I.D. required
 

The hate side of me is winning the war over these cars. I am leaking antifreeze right behind the pass wheel. Any BTDT that could give me clues. I haven't had time to look closely but I am sure it will be a bitch and a half. :banghead:

Heater control valve / short hose. Easily fixed.

Sure . . Your's is an easy fix. Dude . . Did you see the new Mustang Mach 1 yet? I might sell the whole lot. It is f^*kin' sweet!

Ron, I wouldn't blame you. 300 ponies I believe in those.

Also, it's likely that it's the coolent tank, the the cap.

They both get old with age, evetualy the cap will give out, and you'll get a "leak" right behind the passangers side wheel. Or the tank cracks...

Cap is REALLY easy. Tank is not so easy.

I had the same issue. Ended up replacing the resevior and hoses. The cap was also not holding any pressure.

My leak was slow, but I was replacing coolant about every 300 miles or so.

I have a good drip. Little puddle in several minutes. Of course you can see **** in the engine compartment.

Pull off the intake tubes and airbox. Only 2 bolts hold the lower cover in place (10 mm). Look at the rear of the engine on the pass. side for the plastic heater control valve. There is a short 2" piece of hose that may be leaking. A nice 15 minute fix if that is it, and at least you will have a much better look at the coolant tank region and heater hoses with the airbox off.

I found the leak:thumbup:. First let me say that if you do not have a radiator pressure tester then immediately buy one because one leak it pays for itself. It is the hose (about 1/2" I.D.) that is on the pass side that wraps around the air breather housing. 7psi and she started blowing like old faithful.

Dude . . Did you fix it? Was it hard to do? Should I change the 1 on the 88 before I make the trip back home? You know I don't want any troubles on my way home. We are going to go over that car like I fine tooth comb!

I got trailered once for a blown upper radiator hose and almost trailered again for the short hose witht the two different I.D.s. at the heater control valve three weeks later. You gotta watch these things like a hawk. I though for the longest time i had a head gasket leak. Bad hoses were the culprit.

I just cut the hose down a bit below the leak. Looks like I will still be enough. John, I see what you mean about the heater valve hose. Ron, had to remove a bunch of stuff to get to it. It would not be easy removing the whole hose because the SS rocket scientist tightened the hose clamp and then put in the wiper motor over the clamp screwhead. Yes, the hose runs to the otherside of the car. That is why I am Gerry rigging it. If it goes again then so be it.

Okay seems to be holding good. I took a snap of a couple of line. Anyone know what the blue cap line is and the vacuum hose with the red cap on it.

Blue = should be the hose that goes to eighter the vacuum resevor, or cruise control servo. They're both located in the driver side fender.

White w/ red cap. Maybe the hose that goes to the recirculate flap. I'm not sure. The recirculate flap hose is white, and in that general area, but I don't remeber if it goes exactly there.
