Interest in Replacement Engine Wiring Harness

We have been developing an exact-rep[lacement engine wiring harness for the 78-82 CIS 928s - and the supplier is about to ship me our first order.

In our experience - the early cars have common alternator charging and some dash indicator light problems that I have been able to attribute to the crumbling, corroded, failing engine wiring harness that is now 24+ years old.

We found sources for the exact Bosch/Porsche wiring connectors at the Warm-Up Regulator, Cold Start injector, and others, and also the exact 14-pin connector at the fender to clip it in. All wiring is copper and loomed exactl;y as Porsche did it. The harnesses are assembled for us by the professional wiring harness sub-contractor that we hired for this project. You will not find cheap-o crimp-on wiring on this thing. The is a factory replacement harness up to all factory specs.

About the only thing that is holding this product up at the moment is the availability of the the brick-colored wire loom that Porsche used as OEM - I can get it but it is taking a little longer. The brick-colored loom would make it cosmetically correct, but if it takes much longer than it has already, I might just order them built with black wire loom to get it done.

Do you guys care what color the wire loom would be? Is Black OK?

What is your interest level in a product like this for your car?
We are going from oldest-first.... if this product succeedes, the wiring harness for the 82-84 L-Jet cars would be next.

Would be very interested. What do you expect the pricing to be? Black wouldn't be a problem. When do you expect to have them available?

Get to work on the first 32 valve engine looms too!!

Count me in too.

I can't think of any differences for the 80-84 L-Jet harness to the CIS harness. Is there?

If it's close enough, I'd take one, if the price is reasonable.

I'm in (price dependant). The color of the loom is not that important to me.

A loom to make all the gauges work? Like the main branch loom that goes into the car? I'm in.

Yes, I think so.

Like leads to fire the injectors, I'd figure.

Of course I'm interested...

Some people have burned or shorting harnesses. For the rest of us (me) it's an issue of cost/benefit. Could be a standard part of rebuilding a 25-year old engine.

Carl,

Count me in. There's got to be differences in the model years though. I've got an 82 Euro S motor sitting by my beer fridge with the original wiring harness attached to it. It looks as though there are a couple of wires that are different on that Vs. my 79.

Black harness would not hold me up, but I definately appreciate your attention to detail!!! Keep up the good work there boss.

I want one.

Carl this is a heaven send. I want the 32V version but thanks for finally getting this going at all. About time someone stepped up.

PorKen 09-11-2004 12:54 AM

Glen L,

The L-Jet stuff is a separate harness (injectors, sensors, throttle switches).

The cold start circuit is the same for CIS and L-Jet. Another example of German evolutionary engineering.

The only thing that might be different is the length of the wires to the cold start air bypass valve, and/or the cold start injector. But I would not be surprised if they are the same length or, more importantly, that they could be made to fit both CIS and L-Jet with one harness.

Black is fine for me.

SharkSkin 09-11-2004 02:06 AM

While I don't seem to have an immediate need for this, I will most likely be in the market for one eventually. And I wouldn't care if it were black.

Alan '79 928 09-11-2004 08:04 PM

Carl, I would be very interested. My harness is in terrible shape. A black loom would be fine by me. Can you estimate a rough price? Thanks.
