Carl -- may I highly recommend that you use the Audi connectors for injectors and tems senders? They are compatible with our injectors and yet they incorporate hand-pinch-clips so they can be removed without a tool.

I like that - that sure is cheaper than the Bosch item - but it is not a factory replacement part... do you guys care?

Notice how easily these push to open and pull off .... There is a Bosch equivalent. And it exists for ALL their connectors, so injectors, temp, MAF, idle stabiliser, and so-on ....

I understand - I just want to know if the end-users would be pleased with these - if you are doing a true restoration you might want to see OEM-style instead. I do not want to hear "Hey! Those connectors are not original equipment!" later on.

I think most people will only care about functionality.

The people who actually like to restore these cars to full original stock condition, are far fewer in number, compared to the people who just want to get their cars running right...

Carl, if someone cares that much about originality they probably won't be going for the black wire loom anyway. Whenever I get to the point where I need this, I won't care. Black with the better connectors would be fine with me.

Just my 928¢ worth...

bcdavis & sharkskin

I agree with you - form follows function. I am just listening to what everyone wants. Those MSD connectors could actually improve the product, IMHO.

Carl......... can you source the connectors for those of us that need to fab a harness for a later car, before you produce them? When I screw on Andy's blower this winter, I'd like to redo the engine harness while I'm in there. If I have to fab it myself, I'll probably reroute some of the loom, although I'd certainly just R/R the thing with a pre-fab'd unit if you have them available.

News from the wiring harness contractor:

The production hit another snag on Friday, the contact in the Porsche connector was not big enough to handle the one oversize wire. The machined a new one and then cold not get all of the wires into the connector body. The diameter of the entry hole on the connector we supplied is much smaller than the one on the original harness and they are trying to modify the connector to make the hole bigger without destroying it. That was the story at 3 pm this afternoon. We have been without phones for 2 days due to our move and AT&T. I have spoken with Don on the cell several times. I hope to hear in the morning that he got something worked out tonight. I know they had an engineer working late to try to make this work.
...just in case you think that your going to buy a couple wiring connectors and whip out one of these. These ar people that make their living making nothing but automotive wiring harnessesa and they are having trouble getting the right number of wires in the loom and in the connectors...

There's no doubt that a one-of wiring harness "rebuild" is a challenging task. New connectors, or at least terminal hardware, certainly makes the process simpler, but it's not impossible to do a decent job given the time and inclination. All commercially produced wiring harness components are available, one way or another, and Snap-On provides a broad selection of the connector assembly/disassembly tools you might need. I was simply hoping that we might have discovered a single-point source.

I guess that's not the case.

OK Boys! It's here!

The engine wiring harness for 78-82 is available for ordering now. The first group will ship on or before December 15th.

Although the wire loom in these photos is yellow, the final product you will receive will have black wire loom. The loom is silicone-impregnated cloth - better than original. All wiring is copper, all connectors are Bosch or Porsche brand.

The wiring harness can be ordered here:

Lets keep 'em on the road!
