Weight reduction: what can I lose and still have the car look stock?
Title says it all. Sharky needs to go on a diet. Where can I shed some pounds and have the fact remain unobtrusive? Different battery, sound insulation, other?
And BTW, telling me I should lose some body mass on my own personal carcass is no secret. The joke's already been made, so keep your helpful medical advice to yourselves.

What does an aftermarket seat weigh?
I'm also thinking about a light-weight starter. Does anybody sell one for the 928?

By holding the seats and stepping on a scale I came up with a weight close to 70lbs too.
Some aftermarket seats weigh a little as 16lbs. IIRC it's the Sparco sprint and is less than $300.

As I said above, check out corbeau's website (www.corbeau.com). They have a bunch of seats that weigh in the 25lbs area designed for street-cars (and a racing seat at 14.5). I believe they offer a pretty decent quality for a low price. They might not be as good as sparco/recaros, but they definately have their place.
As for seat brackets, Corbeau seems to supply them for the 928.

I put in some seats from a 924. Fully manual and lighter. Not sure how much, though. The look "Porsche-like" at least until the car is next to another 928. Mounted right up.

A lighter battery is definitely an option, just make sure you anchor it adequately.
I've had my non-power seats out and they weigh(guessing) maybe 40 lbs. So you could go to correct manual seats and perhaps save 60 lbs.
All of the cruise components might weigh 10 lbs, not worth the effort IMHO
If you have a Paris-Phoney alternator, you could probably switch it for Bosch and save a few pounds, plus have a better alternator.
The Random tech cats may be lighter than the cat you have.
The Borla cat-back is much lighter than the stock exhaust.
It really depends on how far you want to go. Mark Kibort's lexan windows probably save lots of weight, and look kinda stock from a distance...

Replace the foam and tar with proper audio sound deadening. Each seat is about 50lbs. Replace those with racing seats if your the only driver - they are non-adjustable. Rear AC stuff if you have it. Rear seats - you just need carpet even for baby seats. Sunroof stuff - check out porken for the lightweight stuff.
I hear the pop up lighst weigh about 35 pounds.

A good friend has been driving daily on a Corbeau seat (no idea which model, it does recline though) for nearly 5 years. It's the tough tweedy kind of cloth, holding up very well. I'm considering them, and other brands too, because my seats are beyond saving.
