Default Sad day: my baby on the auction block...

Well my financial situation finally came to a head. Time to fall back and regroup. Last week I dropped my baby off with a box of books and tools and crossed my fingers that I can get out of debt quickly.

Here's the link:

http://www.biddingatauction.com/list...mnum=777509221

I have thousands of hours into restoring this car, a stack of reciepts for 928 Intl. 4 hours in cleaning and conditioning the leather alone. New window switches, sunroof switch, some trim, dash overlay, new mats, new chin spoiler, and those sweet C2s with Bridgestone RE730s - about 80% tread left. The new timing belt (with it's rebuilt tensioner and new H2O pump of course) is humming along fine, tension was dead center last time I checked. This car pulls like a freight train.

Basically nearly everything you have to do after picking up an old Porsche has been done and done with loving care.

Original window sticker, most reciepts, all books (yes the fuse chart is there), all tools plus aftermarket tension checker and flywheel lock, even the sunroof crank.

Known bad: funky notcarbon-notfiber shifter handle (broken original included), pull-out cassette stereo with huge amp and extra speakers won't work, hatch release and rear wiper inoperative - I ran out of time.

We'll see how it turns out.

Once I'm back on track I will be looking for an S4, maybe a 5-speed. But for now I'm trying to keep my head up and think positive.

Thanks for looking - I'll be around.

p.s. Looks like I'll be dumping a dead RX-7 too. PM me if you want a rotary project.

Its not clear what the price you actually need is. Can you clarify?

What do you want for the Rx-7 - There are a lot of spec 7 racers within Pro Auto Sports that may be interested. Please send me a PM, with all the info, and I should be able to place a free ad for you in our monthly newsletter. FYI - it wont happen until after Labor Day - We have a big weekend of racing.

Is this a Euro, or a US-Model with Euro front fenders and side markers? Either way, it looks like someone is getting a heck of a deal. And you lose your pants in the process...

I bought my daily driver at an auction, and it was about $5k or 30% less than I would have paid at a dealer. In this case, it was a repo and the bank lost.

I hope you will get more out of this auction than you would have gotten on ebay.

Best of luck!

JEC - You put this in a ONE DAY AUCTION????

Somebody JUMP on it! 4 Hours to go and it is $2500! For your sake, I hope there's some HEAVY bidding in the next few hours!

Hi Brendan,

I'm in the hole 6K, mostly credit cards and family debts which to me are far worse. My reserve is less than that, though.

I might regret doing this auction, but oh well. Life is all about experiences. I've seen other P-cars go for "too much" on this auction site so my fingers are crossed.

Hi Nicole,

It's a US car, #107 of the 1986 cars. The window sticker (all options) is from Bill Gugenheim (spelling?) dealer in the Detroit area, sold through The Car Barn, a local Grand Rapids specialty dealer no longer around. The fenders and nose (but not the hood) were replaced at some point in the cars history, they're red underneath. The carfax was clean so it wasn't totaled. I am sooooo going to miss this machine....

Hi Drewster67: I'll PM later if one of my rotary friends makes up his mind to not get my 7.

p.s. it's not at my reserve yet

JEC:

That car should fetch more than the amount of your debt easily. I'm assuming that there's a time sensitivity involved. Everyone here I'm sure agrees that given more time, you'd sell that car for more than its current price.

I hope you get a lot more for it.

Jec,

Try to hold out a few days and make it a 3 day auction!!! You'll regret it later... My opinion.

Good Luck,

Ron

Unless bidding goes crazy I'm not going to make reserve, so look for it getting listed elsewhere soon, really soon.

Dammit I saw a junk 944 go for twice it's street value and a very early Boxster go for 2K over book on this auction site. That's why I gambled on it. Grrrr...

Before you list it anywhere else, do me a favor and PM me... I am in the market for a 928 and yours might be exactly what I am looking for. I would register for the auction, but I am very leery of registering anyplace that requires a credit card to sign up.

I have the cash and am ready to buy if its the right car. I am not a tire kicker.

Regards,

$5211.00 ending bid - hope that was lower than the reserve. Because it would be a shame to give the car away for that price!

A few hundred bucks short of reserve. Oh well. Yeah, the one-day auction was a dumb idea.

Check your e-mail, Scott.

Well - it sold after all. The auctioneers decided that they'd rather write off that few hundred bucks and effectively take a lower commission than none at all. The guy told me that the buyer was "tickled pink" about his new aquisition, maybe he'll join up here.

Sorry Scott. Tell your wife you wanted a lower-mileage one anyway.

As for me, now my head is above water and the loansharks (you can choose your friends but not your relatives) held off. Now I must begin my secret Save-Up-For-An-928S4-5spd plan... and this time I will NOT borrow money to get it!
