Retired submarine officer. Coach a high school rifle team for the fun of it. Stopped working on car in the 60's when I sold my '57 Corvette but needless to say, I have started again.

Great, so you treat ED? How about some discount? My friend needs your service. Really my friend, not me.

TO S4ORDIE, Dan, when I was getting ready to retire, my wife said that " If you ever go back to sea, they had better keep your *** for another 30 years, cause I won't be here when you return." I never saw my kids grow up. When my daughters were teenagers they said that I never lived at home I just visited once in a while. A very accurate statement. I moved to the desert so I couldn't see the ocean, or smell the salt air. My profession is a young man's game, the sea is a terrable mistress. I escaped with my life intact, it was time to leave. I have really become a desert rat, the desert has a beauty all it's own. Las Vegas has a huge Hawaiian community. I see more people here than I did at home. My wife and I are talking about taking our trawler and sailing the world together while we still have our health. We will be making some lifestyle changes in 2010, if all goes as planned. ALOHA, Joe

Joe - Excellent reasons. Smooth sailing ahead for you. I don't know what is worse, living in the desert and yearning for the sea, or living on an island and owning a great boat that is orphaned in San Francisco Bay because there are no slips available in the only marina here.

Strange, my wife and I are contemplating moving to Reno for many reasons. Mostly for her profession which is surgical oncologist ( general surgeon) with an additional fellowship in Breast surgery. No plastic, mostly breast cancer. Will miss living near the sea but will be visting the boat regularly if indeed we do end up in Reno.

Regardless, would be happy to host you and your family for a day on the Bay. "Sweet Tart" is a special Tartan 4600 HP. She is a mistress that even my wife enjoys (as close as I'll ever get to a threesome). A nice trawler appeals the sensible side of me, the sailboat, the emotional.

Some partial truth to my professions in chronological order:

o - Summer time field laborer, Oregon (picked berries, beans and cherries) ages 9-12
o - Paper carrier (ages 11 - 13)
o - Hay Bailer (13 - 15)
o - Packaging Engineer (grocery bagger 16-17)
o - Military (17- 20) Job unimportant
o - UPS driver and full time GI Bill student
o - Seismic analyst - Senior exploration geophysicist (Union Oil, Schlumberger)
o - Exterminator (baby needed food and shoes after the Oil industry went bust)
o - VP Collections for a large commercial leasing company (think repo man)
o - Cad systems engineer (very early days)
o - Director then VP of mapping software company
o - A few high tech startups (Windchill, acquired by PMTC and Spotfire acquired by Tibco)
o - Director of special DoD projects for a large well known software company

A strange and interesting ride professionaly, even more so personally. But that is another thread.

I went to college for rowing...after a killer knee injury that ended my rowing career, I focused on my studies; still not sure if I was ever really interested in school or if it was that acute case of OCD...

After undergrad I was the General Manager of a well known night-club in NYC for 3 years. That was fun. Decided to go to grad school for some reason and earned a joint degree. I then worked as a Portfolio Manager with Lehman Bros. for 5 years, focusing on Derivatives Contracts, & wrote a few interesting journal articles for the financial engineering sector, became bored, went to work for the government. I was with the IRS as a Revenue Officer for 2 years; currently still with the IRS, now as a Revenue Agent.
