Default H3 LED from Philips has a ground Problem!

The bulb ist painted on the Socket, so no ground!

On the early Cars we need to remove Paint!

Only here bare metal

It's a very tight fit but for a good light Output you need the cooling Fan!

Thanks for posting this! I ordered and just received this bulb from EU for my fog lights. Did your remove paint from the mating surface facing the LED?

I will do this the next few days. I think I will delete paint on the side of the round base.

I don't see how it isn't already well grounded through the retention clip? You will also need to re-route the positive to be free of the clip compression.

Alan, the clip can ˋt reach the bottom of the paint free area because there isnˋt enough room in the nose area.
The picture is only for illustration, on the car I had the wire on the other side.

Hmm.. I watched a video yesterday about a cheap spot-weld tool for use in DIY building of replacement manufacturer specific battery packs.

It might be possible to take a similar approach and spot-weld a nickel strip to a small bare patch, around the base of the bulb (and back onto itself) to facilitate good contact?

Video on cheap spot-welding tool..

Plus the tool looks like fun

Old cars are only an excuse for hoarding tools!

These go right in, fit, and work great.

Calais Extremely Bright H3 LED...
Amazon Amazon

Have them in my 928 for the gigs and aux hi-beams and in our 944 S2.

Will go to 6000K HID headlights when one of these wears out

Parking light since fixed

Thanks a lot. It's a little more full than I'd like, but bought the propery next door with the hopes of building a 6-car garage on it someday.
