Looks better then a batch of measuring sticks. I think I would need one that goes from 135-185 mm.

Great solution! I have been using a Bosch laser measuring tool from HD which is nice.

depami 11-19-2023 06:09 PM

Slight modification:
Shortened probe and added calibration screw.
Now my scale is off by 5 mm but they are just glued on so hopefully I can pop them off and apply corrected ones.

We use a straight edge and a tape measure in the air, on the alignment rack.
When we measure one, on the ground, we have a couple of machined block of aluminum, with a bolts in them, which we measure with a pair of calipers.

But I'd gladly buy one of these, to support the people who take the time (like I do) to improve our 928's.

I love the ingenuity, when people create something unique!
I hate it when people copy existing things that someone else has taken the time to create!

depami 11-26-2023 02:15 AM

Turns out my car is too low for the original gauge so I did some redesign to lower the range and also gave it some other enhancements.
Now to put it to use to get a baseline on what my heights are now before I start investigating what rubber bits need replacing.

No worries. Merry Christmas!

If anyone is using Simplify3D, I can supply "factory" files and then you'll have my print settings as well.

Hey_Allen 11-30-2023 03:55 PM

I'll have to take a shot at this, after the new printer gets here.

(I finally coughed up for a Prusa, after having sold/given away a few other printers before my move, last year.)
So many automotive projects pending, ideas percolating over the past year...

Prusa should be good. I have a home brew which is an "improved Prusa". I am very impressed with the Lulzbot we have at work but it's a $3K machine.

Hey_Allen 11-30-2023 11:02 PM

I had a heavily modified TEVO Black Widow printer for larger work, and a MonoPrice Mini as my "current" list before moving.
The TEVO was modified and running a Duet control board, so it ran, but the hardware was always a little bit of a compromise, as they had cloned one of the designs off of an enthusiast site, without really knowing what they were copying.

I still have an enclosed Core-XY printer I haven't finished, but I'd had enough and bought a Prusa i3 MK4 on the Black Friday sale.

what an excellent product, a lot of time and thought must have gone into it.
i ain't the brightest of minds and for people like me, could the actual measure line be in red compared to the other 4 lines ?

It could, and I considered it. I actually considered the resistor color code of Black, Brown, Red, Orange, Yellow, but my printer is a single extruder so color changes are a bit involved and I decided it wasn't worth it.

Well, I must say, I'm a bit disappointed. By now, I would have expected some of you to have completed your assignment and submitted your result. Oh well, carry on.

This has nothing to do with ride height, but it is more 3D printing fun:

Cheers,

For those playing at home I asked Denny to print longer versions of the carpet screws that secure the carpet to the posts.

The reason I asked for these was I want to use them to secure the floor mat, too. The Porsche version is a bit short.

These look great. Hope to test them in the near future.

Thanks Denny.

Sorry about that as well....guilty as charged. As soon as we move into the new house (end of Feb) I'll be able to re-install my lift and move the 928 in and get some photos. I have a full plate at the moment.

Hey, I stumbled on this post by accident while searching for a tool to help me adjust my Lotus Elise ride height. Do you know how difficult it would be to modify the tool to measure from 100mm to 135mm?

Also, I have always wanted a Porsche and hope to own one sometime in the near future so maybe stumbling into this is a sign :)

Not familiar with those, what do they look like? Are they screw on? If so, the threads probably won't print.

tlebovic 03-26-2024 02:52 PM

What material to print this in?

Hi,

I submitted your files to Craftcloud for an estimate but I don't know which material to specify (they have 127 different ones).

Also do you have any recommendations for material colors to help make it readable?

Thanks,

Mine are PETG-CF for the probe and PETG for everything else.
Choose any color you like but consider contrast for readability. Black on silver for the scale is always good.

What is the correct Infill %

Thanks for the quick reply.

What Infill % should I use? The standard is 20%. Will that be enough or should I go higher?
If you haven't guessed already this is my first 3D printing project...

20% should be fine. I used 100% for everything but the base, body, and knob, which were 22%. Honestly, it really doesn't matter as long as the parts print. Some of the parts are so small or thin that top/bottom layers and perimeters cause it to be 100% naturally. Often I will change percentages midstream in a part depending on the details of the part.

Also, the text could be printed right into the main parts but I made them separate files because they are the most likely areas to cause problems and there's nothing worse that the last 5% of a three hour print causing a bad part.

Once you really get into 3D printing you start to look at part design completely differently. I always consider support, wall thickness, resolution & detail, etc. when designing part to print. I also play with the direction of infill for some parts for various reasons. But then again, I can be a bit anal about details that probably don't matter.

Cheers,
