Default What size is CV nut?

Was going to try to see if loose CVs are responsible for my rear end clunking sound. Have a 3/4" socket set, but none come close. What size is the nut on the CV joint? It's gotta be in the 30s...

The CV joints are attached to the trans and wheel by metric allen head bolts - can't recall the size.

.... or 1.25" if a 32mm is N/A - that would be a 'small' one in a 3/4" set. The CV hex's are 8mm IIRC.

Brian, that nut almost certainly didn't come loose on you. Everyone has to fight to get them off(using a jack is still fighting, just with skewed odds ) so there's no way yours just "came loose" unless it wasn't torqued right in the first place. Which brings me to my next point.... make sure you can get your hands on a torque wrench that can accurately measure the 332 ft/lbs of torque that you need to put it back on right. You can check your CV joints on the ground; Trans in neutral, set the brake & chock the wheels, and see if you can feel any play in the shaft. If they are bad enough to be "clunking" then you will be able to confirm this.

Trust me... BTDT . The allen bolts are definitely 8mm.

I had 'em rebuilt a while back, and have a bit of a thunk as I accelerate. I was looking for suspects in the driveline and suspension and thought I would begin with the most obvious stuff.
