If the water pump was jammed you would have no cooling and the timing belt would scream like hell with potential to rip it apart. You stated there was a small leak so no surprise there is a pump problem but I am puzzled as to how you did not report strange noises or high temps. Was the outboard face of the timing belt damaged at all?

No strange noises or high temps.
The outboard face of the timing belt is clean.

I stopped the 928 two months ago waiting for the parts and time to change the timing belt and water pump. I think that the old water pump jammed when the 928 was sleeping !!!!

For sure, I had a pump problem before it jammed definitely.

Interesting - never heard of that happening previously! The only thing I can think of would be if the coolant got behind the seal thus the leakage and somehow initiated a corrosion eent of some kind that cuased the thing to seize up.

Does your new pump have a plastic impeller or a steel one?

Unfortunately, I think that you have gone backwards in relation to your replacement choice of water pumps in the water pump evolution chain.
The metal impellers, with water pump failure, have been known to damage the engine block.
OTOH, the plastic impeller, with water pump failure, makes the engine hot.

I requested to my dealer (Rose Passion in France) to sell me a LASO water pump. But he sent me a GEBA water pump ... no choice, impossible to change it.
