Rear Hatch Doesn't "pop" open or release when using electric feature

1985 model

The rear hatch does not release or pop open when i use the electric button from inside the car. I can hear and see the actuator working and a popping sound when activated, but the hatch does not release. Looking for help/suggestions on how to resolve. See pics of the area...I tried to upload a vid, but not allowed on the site.

Bottom portion of latch....I see some of the plastic portion has eroded.

Upper portion of latch.....

I've just gone through a similar thing with my hatch release. this thread was useful - the zip tie idea on the unlocking cam provided enough extra 'push' in my case to fix it. I assume you can hear the motor making a revolution when you hear that 'pop'. If not, check the fuse.

The insert that is part of the lower receiver in your car is broken (part of it is stuck to the side of the top receiver on the hatch).

You can get another one from one of our 928 parts suppliers.

Without that insert, the hatch release will not function correctly or at all.

Blake,
Are you referring to this piece? If so, where can I get it? Part number?

Yep, that is the one. There is no Porsche number for it.

The only way to get it from them is to get a whole new lower receiver which costs $$$.

Fortunately our suppliers like 928 International and 928 r us keep aftermarket inserts in stock.

It keeps the hatch aligned in the receiver. The system is crazy sensitive to being misaligned for some reason.

It will also keep the hatch from making popping noises as well along with the 2 rubber guides (1 one each side of the hatch about half way up).

I believe Jerry Feather still produces them as well. Blake's comment about alignment is spot on in my experience.

The cable tie never did it for me. Replace that piece shown in the picture got it working.
Hey, let’s take a moment to fully appreciate the hatch receiver “Rube-Goldberg” achievement award; Where a stupidly simple solenoid has been replaced by a motor, a little transmission, some lever arms and a little plastic pushy-thing PLUS that cute, Geppetto- workshop puppet sound you hear when all this works! Or doesn’t !

I always thought it was Porsche being cheap by repurposing a door lock motor. :roflmao:

You know, if you pull the hatch release just before you shut and lock the door, and being quick about it; you get a short, wheezy symphony :corn:

Partworks do ship to Usa and many other countries outside EU, but the shipping isn't cheap of course. For example, shipping to united states is 34 euro's.
If you scroll down on their site they have "shipping costs" button. Just click and you get to their shipping calculator...
