Wow, you must really know a lot about me and Z. I'm not sure how you came to some of your conclusions though, like about forced induction. Some people have had it for months, some have been involved with it for over a quarter century. Same thing with dynos and drag strips. Some have been to the dyno once, some have done hundreds of pulls during the course of tuning and experimenting. Some have been to the drag strip once or twice, others were going over a quarter of a century ago already. All a matter of perspective I guess. I've never really listened to Stevie Ray Vaughn, so I couldn't say whether I'm a fan of his or not though.

I understand why the corrosion is there, any good way to clean up the spark plug hole? Or should I just leave it, put in a new plug and not worry. I'm afraid of getting metal flakes in the engine.
I don't really know of a good way that I'd try to get it completely clean without pulling the head. If it were me, I'd probably put in a plug to keep debris out of the cylinder, and then use a combination or repeated solvent and compressed air to clean out the well the best you can. Finish up with something like WD-40 to help prevent additional future corrosion, put in a new plug, and check to make sure that the rubber seal of the plug wire seals the well properly when you put the plug wire back on.

No not much, and none other than what I have seen you posting and Z posting here. Sometimes you just really hit it off with people and take a liking to them.
Yep I totally agree, some people have been involved with and have had forced induction for 60+ years, and some have made countless dyno pulls, runs at the 1/4 mile strip and laps at the track. While some build a setup got to the track, and can't complete the day without major problems.

Does anyone know why Z hasn't been posting lately?

Thats very bad on the US 84s, to not have that switch working. very easy to check by moving the throttle linkage to hear it click at 75% or so of full throttle. and, manually hit the switch while running, the idle should kick up a couple of hundred RPM if it is working.
its VERY important. without it. (as I have tested) you not only loose power, but you go progressively more lean and can spend a little too long at Stoich (ie 14.7) and thats where valves burn!! the switch not only commands open loop, it also richens fuel mixture about 15%+.

the runners look great by the way!!

I discovered my WOT switch is busted. Would this account for a total feeling of no power at about 4500 rpm when at full throttle? I hope so.

Anything else I should address while I'm this far?

How the hell do you get the rubber hoses off the injectors? I'm going to re-use my injectors but not the rubber hoses. I cut two of them off, holy sh*t they are on their good. Any ideas?

I wish I would have done a dyno run before I started this. That way we can prove once and for all:
A perfectly running engine is the best performance upgrade money can buy.
I love all the posts of new 928 owners:
"how can I get more power"
And so many people are like:
Did you check:
Plugs
filters
vacuum lines etc...
And the usual response is: "the car is running fine, I wan't more power"
Oh well, I'm sure it will happen again soon.

Hacker it is not that uncommon for the S-4 to have a poorly adjusted throttle cable and never see wide open !!! the pedal is on the floor BUT ....there are also numerous posts about hot wire mass air sensors being replaced and the owner realizes the car has not been running well for a long time . Knock sensors , hall signal generators , flappy valves not flapping , 85-86 ignition brains not getting vacuum , That is one of the good things about getting a dynojet dyno run you can see IF your numbers are close to what it should be .

did you get the euro runners or are you just putting the US stuff back on.
Now, certainly would be a good time to upgrade that tiny Throttlebody.

DAMN YOU MARK!!!!!

Yea, the old US stuff. Since my car is being used as the 16V test mule for the Murf928 supercharger, we wanted to do a fair upgrade on a US car to get an accurate measure of power.

Since you mentioned it, do you have a Euro TB lying around for testing purposes?

It's so easy to get at the TB, I would like to get a base line Dyno, get the SC working, then upgrade the intake and TB to a Euro spec. So I'll have a red intake on the used market in the next year.

Jim,
I see this all the time in VW land. People buy a nice older GTI and start bolting on every POS aftermarket piece they can afford. Never once checking plugs, wires, hoses etc......

My 944S was that way, just didn't seam very fast (I was 17 when I bought it, my Honda Preluse Si was a fast car to me then) My friends were "helping" me pick out go fast parts for the car. One night I decided to try something I read about. I started the car, turned off all the lights and popped the hood. Talk about a x-mas display of lights! New plugs, wires, rotor and cap she screamed. And got 30mpg.....live and learn.

Randy,
That has got to be the best looking intake I have ever seen.

BTW I am not Hacker-P. I do admit I am quick with a mouse though.

Yeah, it is. He didn't seem to be using it anymore so I borrowed it.
Does anyone know where Z has gone? Retired to Fla, or maybe witness relocation perhaps?

Randy....I'm not trying to tread on your turf or anything, but this individual known as "SteveZm928" has kinda-sorta changed a cool thread that Hacker started regarding his engine cleanup into some sort of debate about himself and/or supercharging. And he/she keeps trying to stir up trouble. Its up to you, of course...but I think you or Dunkle ought to check out the internet signatures on this one....I bet he's someone else in disguise, a la Geneva/Godfather~

Hey Normy,

I haven't hi-jacked it at all. Other people ask ing me questions are who has hijacked it if it has been hi-jacked.
If I am in disguise what is wrong with that? There are at least 2 other rennlisters on this thread that have been in disguise at one time or another. I haven't done anything wrong. I am not ragging on anyone's idea and I am not shilling anyone's product. I've payed mostly compliments and gave some helpful suggestions. I am just having fun.
Most importantly I am not posting pictures of me with my shirt off. Even though I am quite thin, taunt and muscular and would like to display this, I just don't think it would be appropriate for me to do that.
Anyway how do you know that I am not helping Hacker-Pschorr by keeping this thread at the top and well read as it comes to a grand finale?

About this thread:
Normy, thank you, yes I was planning on having a thread where I would document my work on my 928. To some it might seam like "normal" stuff. To me it's major. I have never turned a wrench on a Porsche and here I am tering into my 928 like there's no tomorrow. So far so good, hopefully I can give hope to some newbies that these cars are not that hard to work on.

As far as SteveZm928 goes, I'm on the fence about him/her. Z is a good friend of mine, I've had the same thoughts as you about our new "mystery" friend SteveZm928. I'm sure it's all in good fun, and our new friend has a point, he's kept my thread on the front page. Even though I have many update coming that would put this thread back on the front page, he/she has everybody interested. I with I knew who our mystery friend was. I have my guesses, but nothing specific.

Mark K, yea, I know the euro TB would be a much better upgrade, but like I've mentioned before: I want to supercharge my car with as much stock components as possible. This way, anyone that is interested in a Murf928 16V kit, will know my car is not some hot-rod engine with his kit. My car is bone stock except for the mufflers and air pump. We all know these do very little if anything to overall performance.

Once we have the SC kit perfected for the 16V cars, I plan to upgrade to a euro intake, TB and heads. Until then, I really want to know the potential to a low compression US car. What I am doing right now is making sure my car is up to par to set an example for the 16v world. My red intake did not cost that much to paint red, once I go with euro parts, I'll offer my red intake to Rennlist if anybody wants it.

SteveZm928,
Thanks for keeping my thread at the top of the list. If you are who I think you are, WTF man? The 928 world is not very big, we all need to stay friends, ok? We are all here for the same reason, to prove to the world the 928 is the ultimate GT car ever made......with no exceptions.

I agree with Hacker-Pschor. People shouldn't be posting things under fake names. The 928 world is small and it will catch up to you.
