Plastic tubing with the right ID works well — the kind sold for fixing screen wash systems is good as it has a thick wall but still flexes a bit so no chance of breaking delicate bulb.

spray some wd40 in then wipe the top of the bulb with something that will remove all oils....i.e. a squirt of carb cleaner...wipe it off really good. 3M strip caulk...just smash the end of a strip on the end of the bulb and pull...100 percent success guaranteed.

Ok, I'm following you up to the "strip". Not sure what that is. Please explain. Thanks

The issue is that the bulb has been pushed far in and there is nothing really to get a hold of. No surface area to place a hose over it. But that 3m idea with the strip sounds promising if it is working the way I'm thinking. It attaching to the top and will allow me to pull. See pic of bulb in working on. Thanks!

Superglue a small plastic straw to the glass bulb of the light. Wait a few minutes, then pull out the bulb and replace it.

3M strip caulk it's just a gooey sticky rubber material that pretty much everyone needs to have on hand

Mr. Curry's suggestion about gluing the straw to the bulb seems like a winner

Ok, so as my dad always said, the right tool for the job. I finally went over to a local shop and asked for help. Cool shop, he had a 66 Thunderbird and a 68 Jag E Type in the shop. He looked at my switch and asked if I'd discoed it to work on the bench. Nope. He did and took the switch to his tool box and had, no kidding 10+ diff size needle nose. Picked up a very narrow set and removed the bulb. 🙄🙄 I went straight to harbor freight and bought a set and finished the job on the other 3 switches in the parking lot. 😳 Now i have a set. Thanks for all the ideas, non of them worked as the bulbs were in there. But i got them all swapped. 👍👍 Next job, the gauge cluster. Gonna replace all those with LEDs. Hope that goes well.

I wouldn't say "none of them worked" - you just had the wrong pliers....

I almost got a bulb out with a very narrow flat screwdriver, but the glass bulb shattered. I was able to vacuum up the glass, and then it was easy to get into the filament and extract the bulb with tweezers. Not a recommended way, but as a last resort it worked.

Out of curiosity, are you able to get the switch into its components? Mine seems to be riveted together.

Not sure what you're asking, but if your wanting to know if you can pull apart to remove the switch, yes, i didnt know until he pulled it apart. I thought the same but it separates by the difference in color of the switch. Hold the part the wiring is connected to going into the dash and the different color side the button is on, it should just pull apart. I would give you pics but i broke one of the clips holding it in the dash pod and super glued it b4 replacing it. Don't want to chance breaking again. Hope that helps.

Can anyone help with 1980 Porsche 928 light switch "spinning" inside the instrument cluster pod? My light switch "spins" when I "turn" it to activate the parking - head lights, etc.

After pulling out and cleaning my light switch, when i put it back into the pod, i can turn the switch and it does "turn" and "click" into position for the parking lights, headlights, etc but only after it "spins" inside of the instrument cluster/pod.

Its like when i pulled the light switch out, i pulled out the female connector portion of the light switch that was deeply embedded in the instrument cluster out of some kind of bracket or notch that held the female connector half it in place. Without this piece being held in place, when I "turn" the light switch the entire light switch "spins" inside of the pod.

Within a 1/2 inch of the light switch is "spinning" inside the instrument cluster, the light switch will "catch." After it catches i can then turn/click into the parking lights, headlight turn on positions that the switch is designed to do. But its the "spinning" of the electrical switch inside of the pod that is my issue.

My thought is its the electrical wires attached to the female connector half inside the pod that eventually prevents the light switch from spinning in place inside the pod. That is its the the electrical wires preventing from turning any further the light switch to clicks and activate the parking light, then headlights, etc. but it can't be good to rely on wires to prevent the switch from turning.

Any advice/help much appreciated.

There are plastic spring tabs on the side of the switch that lock into grooves in the metal pod background piece. If the tabs are broken off, the switch with spin instead of the end of the switch turning.

Good one with both tabs on the left...one on the right has one broken tab

to fix a spinning switch
disconnect the battery,
pull the **** off the switch,
then get a ziptie
trim it so you have about 1 3/4 in total ,
and fold it over,
then put the switch into its locked position ,
see the nub that locks it into the pod slot.
then press the folded ziptie in the broken slot,
this should hold it in place,
then fit the ****,
then connect the battery.

NOTE BOTLO for a good new/ used switch.
