If it is an item with a reserve on it, you might just want to bid your actual spending amount to see if you will even meet the reserve.
If you REALLY want the item you might just want to bid a hefty amount early and let the sharks swarm at the end only to foiled by your high bid amount.
Bidding right at the end or "sniping" as it may be called can be good and bad. Everything from slow communication lines, Ebay's servers, etc. can go wrong for you with a flury of activity at the end. Your winning bid may just arrive 1 second late.......and you've lost the item.......happened to me a few times. On the other hand it has worked in my favor before also.

I admit, I did not read the whole thread – couldn’t be buggered, but from I saw it looked to me like lowmiler is a bit of a tool. Why even start these pointless arguments? Do you expect to win where mother nature had obviously lost?

The motor Vehicles Department state of Indiana is one of the more lenient of the many states . An individual (as I recall) can sell up to 12 cars per year without necessarily being considered a dealer . There are numerus Illinois based individuals who rent office space/warehouse in North western Indiana next to a big wholesale auction all in one building to be able to buy and sell wholesale without conforming to the rather stringent Illinois requirements even though they resell the cars to Illinois dealers .

O.K. O.K. I just got back to my computer and WOW, what a response! I think it's time to put this dog to sleep and clear up a couple of things.
As most of you know, I've been selling 928's on Ebay for roughly a year now and before that on Autotrader, Rennlist and Cars.com for about 8 years.
Listen, without being an *** and adding any further turmoil, I'm going to clear this issue up. Now, I'm going to say some things that may frustrate some argumentative people, because I'm going to apologize for some comments I made that will leave no room for future argument.
One, I stated that I buy these cars and mark them up to keep the values up. That's not true. I only made that statement out of anger to frustrate a particular person that had verbally attacked me. Yes, I do enjoy making a profit on these cars, but in no way can I afford to buy every single 928 out there. I purchase only 1 about every month or two. So the impact I have is realitively miniscule. The profit I make is due to the fact that I really do research the listings and look for that one special car that is severly underpriced. Thats pretty much it.
Secondly, I do sell only very nice 928's! Most of them usually have less than 30,000 miles and have been thoroughly gone thru by one of the very most respected mechanics (Terry Heath, Euro Motorwerks). I am an obsessive- compulsive person so nothing is ever perfect, but I drive myself crazy trying to make it that way anyway! I always put the car back to its original condition. If its missing any tools, spare pump, cargo net, cover, original stereo, belly pans, I always purchase them and put them back where they belong. I change anything that needs attention eg. brakes, rotors, pan gaskets, belts, anything! When one of my cars is ready to sell, it really is in the best condition possible!
I'm not trying to sell you on anything, I know many of you must already hate me and would never buy a car from me anyway. Just know that I really do love these cars just as much as anyone else. I just also have a hobby that includes selling them.
I would like to apoligize to those I offended, especially MikeN and Jim_H. I made some very immature statements and had some very distorted views. Please accept my apology and I hope we can communicate on a different level from this point on.
I really do know alot about these cars and would like to share my expertise if anyone is ever interested!

Never too late. We all make mistakes. It is humbling to say what he did. I am not sure it was for the best of reasons that he realized maybe he was making enemies, but he did it all the same. Lets give him credit for coming around and ending the fight.
Thanks!

Mistakes? I've made few, as someone once said. Funny how we adults act sometimes. Wish I could say I was "totally" innocent of some arguement I was involved in sometime but don't know if I'll live that long.
Anyway, what great cars we all have!

How true, Jim! We have more similarities than not. I say we utilize those traits instead and put our extensive knowledge of these cars and obvious great taste to good use!
Good luck on that GT if your bidding on it! It really is a special car that deserves a true diehard enthusiast!

Well I don't know who the lucky stiff will be to win that car, but I sure hope it's not Jim! He's already ruined 2 perfectly good ones in a matter of months. With his burn rate there won't be any left by the time I can afford one.

(But good luck anyhow Jim, I think you could use some)
