Hi Jerry,

You shouldn't have to remove the front bumper cover to take anything off except the headlight washers. Everything else you can remove with the bumper cover on the car. I think the piece you are refereing to is between the fog lights and the turn signal. If it is, this piece has a little plastic cover that covers the screws that mount it to the bracket that is riveted to the bumper cover. See the pics in the next couple emails:

BTW, you might notice I still have some detail work on the exterior, the headlight washer has wax around the edges!

Cover off, exposing the screws. If you take this piece off you'll find another black metal bracket that is riveted to the bumper cover.

Hello Chuck,

Nice work with the wheel well detailing. I hope to do the same when I take the calipers off for powder coating this winter. Though what I find underneath may not be half as nice as your red GTS.

Re the bumper impact brackets, do you know a way to get the fog light housing (rear piece) off the car without taking the bumper cover off? If you cannot get the housing off, you can't get the brackets off. The rubber caps come off in a few minutes, however the metal bracket is mounted through the light housing bolts behind the housing.

Cheers,
Mike

After removing the black stops, remove the clear plastic trim located toward the center of the car. There are four screws that hold the lens in place, two on each side of the light. Be careful not to turn the adjuster screws as you'll have to readjust them if you do. They are marked pretty well just take your time, you'll figure out which ones they are. Once you've got the correct screws out, you'll be able to wiggle the lens free and pull it out. Unplug the wires, be sure to mark them so you'll know where they go when you reinstall the light. The lens is now free of the car and you'll see 3 8 or 10 mm screws (sorry I don't remember which size they are), simply loosen and remove them and push the rubber plug the wires run through and the housing will be free of the car too. You should have access to the metal bracket then. Hope that helps.

She looks very nice Chuck!!

... hmmm wish I could get past the big things so I can focus on the little things like that ... my dad was a total fanatic ... used to remove each of the spokes of his Jaguar wire wheels and polis it ... I have great memories of watching him clean his flute in a bazillion pieces, and the monthly targa leather treatment which took the whole Sunday afternoon ...

Tom,

Nice avatar!

heinrich,

That's why I like to buy really low mileage cars, lot less major mechanical items to fix. I really do love doing this stuff!

My first thought was WHat did you use on the engine to get it that clean, Then I saw that you used the P21S Citrus Cleaner. I have to agree, that is the only stuff I have ever found that actually is good enough to spray on and then hose off without scrubbing.

Awesome Car!!! (And I'm not usually that fond of red.)

Spent the last few weeks cleaning, replacing some warn and/or broken bits, removing the cosmoline and 12 years worth of road grime off the 93. I like to have a fresh start with cars, its easier to keep them clean once they are clean. Right Brendan?

RIGHT CHUCK!

Almost got all the cosmoline off everything. Still trying to find the right wire brushes for a few places on your old 89S4. Do you remember how much cosmoline was on this car?

I was thinking of removing those little washers - as I have the bumper off. I guess well see. One less place for wax to build up. Also, water always dribbles out of there at high speeds.

Some sort of FG or polyurethane filler.

Brendan,

They leak because there is a bad valve in the water lines under the bumper cover. My 95 leaks too.
