When one thing leads to another.....
Hi All
So, I wanted to remove the rear seat belts to get them re-webbed, which means removing the rear quarter panel trim.....I also wanted to run some cables for a new amp & speakers.
What I found under the trim was absolutely sodden foam insulation - literally soaking wet....both sides!
I water tested both quarter windows and found a leak marked with the black arrow below. It's going off to my 928 specialist for a few other things and I'm sure he'll sort it.
In the process of removing the old foam, it has disintegrated into the pile of mush you see below. I have removed the remaining residue and the car is drying out. As you'd expect, it's NLA from Porsche.
So, now I'm planning to install my own sound proofing in the form of:
Silent Coat Extra 4mm Mat Volume Pack – Sound Deadening Shop
Followed by a top layer of:
Dodo Sound Stopper – Sound Deadening Shop
Anyone see any issues with that? Is there some other job I should do while the rear panels are out?
Cheers!
John

John,
There is a tendency for some examples to rust along the bottom edge of the rear quarter window. Whether that is the root cause of your problem i have no idea but given the paint job etc I would have expected such to have been caught and recitified during painting.

I felt a bit guilty ripping out the original stuff, but it was so wet and stinky!
I feel less guilty now!
