This is shown in Dwayne's thread, below. And, I just dropped a tank last week out of an '85 to clean it and there was a crack in the exact same spot. Not all the way through yet, but same spot.

However, your leak looks to be on the side where the vent fittings go into the tank, so that may be it as well.
Let us know what your guy finds, and take pics to post!

That does look like the exact spot that gas is coming from on mine.

I'll post some pics up when I learn more.

You were spot on Jason

Tank has a really nasty split on top corner (passenger side). I'm lucky I caught this. As you can see, there is another split starting to take shape and this could've ended with another 928 burning to the ground (or worse) as when I accelerated fuel was pouring out from top when it was full.

Sourcing a tank now, with all new lines, and new fuel pump.

I have a spare fuel tank in storage if you cannot source it elsewhere.

Hi Kevin,

Sourced one from a wrecker for $100 with guarantee. Just waiting to see condition after they pull it.

If that falls through, I will let you know.

Its a shame these are NLA as there is a clear demand for them.

The Project Binky guys (not related to Porsche, but cool stuff) make it look easy to just fab up fuel tanks out of sheet metal. Would probably be less prone to cracking...

I kid, but your point is a good one. There's lots of NLA parts now that are pretty critical.

Good luck!

I just found this yesterday when bleeding the brakes, and I'll be checking through the port today to see if it is anything on top is leaking. Is this the area where your crack was?

If this is over the passenger side rear then it could be

you will need to drop the tank to check/replace

I replaced the whole fuel system up to the engine including pump, filters, etc.

I had also previously replaced all of the lines under the hood including those to the injectors.

Do not drive the car like this or store it indoors
