Even if the motor and trans are shot, find some used ones for a few grand, and have a decent looking running and driving car. It's flat out shocking sometimes to see how many of these cars that could be made drivable are torn apart. Difference of opinion and amount of effort that ones willing to put into something I suppose.
I don't disagree with either of these.
I'm not calling it a 'Parts car', but, as I noted and Linderpat also noted, it's a non-runner.
The unknowns and potential issues will drive the price way down.
It may only need a good cleaning of the CIS and a few odds & ends, but without knowing that, there's no way anyone who knows these cars will pay a premium price for it, S or not.
If I were the owner, I'd invest some time & money into getting it running. Even running poorly, it would be worth a lot more.

Hello everyone,
Thank you very much for the relies on my 928. When I did the original post, I know it was very generic as I didn't know if I'd even get a response.
All of you bring up some great questions and will get as many answered ASAP.

It's also worth noting that I'm the kind of moron optimist that bought 3 cars with no history that didn't run. But the two I wanted to get running are running, so it's worked out so far. I still think some people's standards are too high, but mine might also be too low. I'm pretty sure most others would have scrapped all 3 of my cars by now.
And how much did you pay for those 'non-runners with no history'?
Again, it's not a question of 'standards' or whether or not this car should be saved (I think it should).
The question is/was 'what is it worth'.
And the answer is (more or less) "A lot less than it would be if it were running".
Given how the exterior and what's visible of the interior look, this may be one of those very few cars that will be worth more than the work it will take to get it back running. ($5k away from a $15k car, rather than the other way around).

Hello everyone,
Here are some additional pictures I took today. Despite what I do, the hood looks splashy and not much I can do about that. I can't see that with my eyes alone, but that's how the pictures are coming out.
Here's some background.
My mom and stepfather purchased the car in 1985 and has always garage kept. They had the car imported from Germany and had the car retrofitted for US (I have all the receipts and history). My mom was basically a housewife and just drove the car around Lake forest, Ill and always had the car serviced at the local Ferrari dealership down the street from our house. As years passed, she moved to Houston and I moved to PHX, AZ and she continued to use the car for local errands, trips to the store etc. She really maintained the car well and is all original, paint, interior etc. I need to speak with her this weekend and see if there was any major repairs done to it, as I don't recall there being. As the years passed, she started driving the car less and less and driving my stepfather's Chrysler 300 as it was difficult for him to get in and out of the Porsche. In 2004, I took a job in Austin, TX and lived there for ~ 5 years before moving back to AZ. I would visit her every other week and drive the 928 around Champions forest in Houston just to keep the oil flowing etc. The car always ran really strong and was a blast to drive. In 2010, I took a job offer back in AZ where the rest of my family lived and again, she would rarely drive the car.
A few years ago, she asked me if I wanted the car as she was no longer going to drive it. Of course I said yes, and had it shipped to AZ. She told me when she started the car when it was being towed that it smelled and gasoline really bad. I received the car about a week later and the truck driver indicated the same thing. When I received the car, there was an apparent leak in a fuel line which was easily visible and fixed the leak by replacing the hose. The car would start and idle fairly rough for a few minutes than die. It seemed to run rough and rich and starve for gas then it would die. I moved to a new house about a year and a half ago and placed the car in my 3rd car garage and have only tried to start it one a and wouldn't start.
Condition - The car is in really good shape. The front driver seat is torn due to usage, but the passenger seat and rear seats are excellent. The radio is an aftermarket but the rest of it is original.
I'm still looking for the engine code and some of the other info requested. I'll follow-up with additional pictures and info.

titan200405,
Welcome. Please let us know where you are in AZ, as there may be local "928 guys" that you can connect with that will be an invaluable resource.
In my opinion based upon your pictures and what you have described, you have a car that is worth fixing and either enjoying or finding another who will. It will cost $$. However, if it was maintained and ran and drove just before you acquired it, it may not be much at all in the grand scheme of things. (You're Mom may like to drive it again!)
We have to leave it to you what it is you want with the car, but it may not be very far from a car you will really enjoy on the weekends, even if it won't win a blue ribbon.

Hi, and thank you Jason.
I am in Mesa, AZ.
Thanks so much for replying. I think I'd rather keep it to be honest unless I can get a decent price for it. I have a Ram truck, Nissan 370Z a daughter and a demanding job so it's been challenging finding the time to give it some TLC.
