Default Selling my 928

After nearly 15 years of ownership I have decided to sell my 1985 928S.
I basically brought this car back from the dead (not running) and believe it is very sound condition mechanically.
The car is listed on the Rennlist Marketplace and I plan to take it to Road America this weekend for June Sprints to see if there is any interest.
If nothing develops in a few weeks I plan to list it on BAT and see where it goes.

Pricing these cars is always a challenge so I am open to suggestions but starting at $9,800 to see what may happen.

If you have any questions please feel free to send me a PM or an email ([email protected]).

Tough decision I'm sure. I'd add the link to the Rennlist ad in this thread.

At Road America, make sure to park it in 'Porsche Park'.

June Sprints at Road America were great (except the weather, and lack of spectators).

I was the only car parked in the Porsche Park Friday and Saturday so decided to park near the paddock on Sunday.

Submitting to BaT for auction today.

BaT rejected my request so now I need to decide if I am going to pursue other options or keep the car.

Just curious, may I ask why? Did they not want a reserve ?

They are starting to irritate me. The criteria is not clear.

No specific reason, just a note that they have a lot of requests and they need to limit the number of applications that they accept.

Totally conjecture on my part but I suspect they are only interested in more pristine examples that will bring higher prices.

I will be selling my car soon. I was thinking of using eBay too.

What was eBay like? Interested buyers?

I did a Completed and Sold item listings search on eBay for 928s4’s but it had such a huge range of selling prices. A $20K car was a 5 speed with thousands of dollars in recent services, and then there was an ‘87 automatic that won’t start that sold for $3K. The automatic cars in the middle of that were Best Offer Accepted, so no telling what they brought.

If you had used BAT, would you have required a reserve?

Does anyone know what a good condition early automatic S4 is usually worth right now? Or what to do to the car before listing to get a higher sales price?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

I know that an 89 5 speed with 160k miles that needed motor mounts and a timing belt job recently went for $17,000 if that helps.

The 5 speed cars do bring a premium.

I should have written more clearly, I have an automatic so I’m super interested to see what the real market value of those is these days. I corrected the previous post.

I am considering E-Bay because of the market reach, Craigslist is generally local but I may try that first.

Value on these cars is highly variable because it really boils down to what a buyer is willing to pay and every buyer has a different perspective.

BaT asked if I wanted a reserve (I indicated yes).

I cut the price on my listing in the marketplace before I move on to listing the car in other places, now $7800 OBO.
