RMB!! (Rear Muffler Bypass).

Best bang for the buck as far as sounds goes and adds a few HP..

Sounding "better" is relative to your tastes. I like my twin pipe muffler with the small mid resonators.

Being an 89 like mine which already has the small resonators the next step is an RMB suggested above.

Go back to stock, make it as quietly dangerous to others as intended.

Nobdy ever thought a pickup truck sounded fast.

Agree on the RMB. Here is a video of mine.

Depends on on your preference, the stock system has an understated sophistication.

Can you articulate what better sound means to you?

Here are your basic options for the starting point:

That sounds great! Anyone use test pipes to get rid of the cats? Any suggestions where to buy the rear muffler delete?

If your ‘89 has the small resonators you do not want both cat-delete and RMB. One or the other. Not both.

Not to high jack or anything but why not both? And how does this apply to an 86.5 5 speed?

Too loud. And I don’t mean “if it’s too loud you’re too old” I mean “as loud as a Winston Cup Car” loud.

Not too bad with large resonators.

I have no idea. OP has ‘89.

Our exhausts are a little different. A couple of us have cut the top off the "pumpkin" and cleared some obstacles...wins both ways.

Exactly my thoughts when I put one on my GT with the small resonators and Xpipe. With the cats I thought it sounded awesome. With the Xpipe I described it to others as NASCAR loud. Way too much.
