Where does your speedometer needle rest?
 

I accidentally bumped my speedo needle when I was doing some pod work and don't have a reference of where it used to rest. Here is where it is currently.

I'd appreciate it if someone could post a photo of where your needle rests. Assuming of course that your speedo reads accurately. FWIW I am running stock wheels and tires, tranny, diff, etc. on my '84.

You could just compare it to a GPS reading on a smartphone app and go from there. I'd assume any error would be linear on the speedo.

Ok, what do you mean 'bumped it'?

It should move fairly freely if you gently push on the needle. It should be able to move the entire range of the speedo, and 'fall back' to zero.

The only way to get it to 'zero' somewhere else is to pull the needle off of the axle and put it back in a different spot.
Dwayne's write up on the speedo & cluster covers this nicely. The 'fork trick' is a good way to pull the needle.

I have and it is about 8-10 mph off across the range (well at least out to 80 mph. I didn't test beyond there). My issue is that I am unsure how much to move the needle to make up that delta and figured I would put it back to where other's needles rest as a first try and hopefully not have to iterate from there.

The original needle on this speedo was warped so I replaced it with a straight one about a year ago. I actually did use Dwayne's technique to remove the old one. However after I pressed the replacement one on, IIRC I could still move it if I twisted it at the base when it was up against the zero or max speed stops. This is what I believe must of happened recently when I had it out to clean the dash foil. Somehow I pushed on the needle when it was up against the max speed stop and that is why it is now sitting above zero.

Thanks for the pictures guys. Both of your speedos have a clear marking at 10 MPH. If you look at mine, the first mark is unnumbered. Do you think that is the zero mark or the 10 MPH mark? Compared to the 30 MPH mark it is spaced like it would be the 10 MPH mark, however I can't imagine that zero would be that far again below that mark. So maybe that is the zero mark?

Ok, that makes sense. It sounds like the splines on your shaft or in the needle are worn out. No big deal.

I have a federalized 85 Euro (no clue when the cluster is from). It has the speedo exactly like yours - On un-numbered mark below 20.

I have a bit of a 'spline issue', where it doesn't read quite right and I have to choose between a bit low or a bit high.

When mine is at rest, the needle is below the un-numbered mark. The best I can give you is that the upper left corner of the trip odo is just peeking out above the needle. So maybe a needle width and a hair lower than your is showing.
