oh man I really hate to see this happens.. Such a crying shame.

Brings us all back to earth a bit.

SeanR 05-17-2019 08:56 AM

Damn, I was hoping it wasn't Jims. Good eye on the gauges, I couldn't tell on my iPad if it was.

Absolute tragedy...

Mark Anderson 05-17-2019 10:11 AM

That’s the second time this car burned I bought it as a total from fire many years ago

928cs 05-17-2019 10:13 AM

This is certainly the last time!

jag s 05-17-2019 11:37 AM

If there is any bright side to this at least no one was injured and it wasnt the car that started the fire

soontobered84 05-17-2019 12:01 PM

When I first joined the DFW group, Jim always had the nicest car and I have always aspired to have my cars as nice as Jim's always was. I may never make it, but I keep plugging

mdkelly1 05-17-2019 12:07 PM

Very sad to see this! Jim put a lot of time, money, and effort into personalizing the car and making it one of the best! Here are more photos of it before the fire:

Wow - so sad. Hope the owner had an Agreed Value policy on it.

hacker-pschorr 05-17-2019 12:34 PM

Very sad and something everyone needs to think about if they use a rental storage unit. Most are built very cheap, few have any fire protection in place.

Years ago Wisconsin started to require a fire wall in-between every so many units, I'm not sure what happened but the law was changed and no longer required. Something to check into if you keep anything valuable in such a unit.

Here's the car as I got it back in 2000

Griot's "Fire Restorer" was a short-lived product. It seems that there is some damage that won't just buff out...

It looks as though that "Fire-Restorer" worked pretty well the first time. Maybe it would work again? Probably not. :(

One of the 38 US manual GTS produced during the 1992 model-year.

Truly one of a kind. I really lusted after this car when it was available. I wonder what the ins will pay on this vehicle?? Probably depend somewhat on how much business the owner does with his ins company. But it would have to be a lot for them to pay what we think is worth. OTH, its documented value was established by what he paid for it and whether he has "agreed upon value" with them.
