Agreed!

Update...MAF was the answer. Idle good and steady now. Car takes fuel and revs as it should. Button up and shake down tomorrow.

Thanks to all for the advice and assistance.

Dave C. I'll continue with the diagnostics to see what else might be out of whack, but at least things are back where they were and I'm on the road!

That’s good news.

There is a Mass-Air Sensor failure mode that can cause this super-undriveable behavior, but I’m lead to believe that it’s only possible for a version of the sensor that was pre-‘87.5. Thus, your sensor may have already been swapped-out?

If you are pretty sure it was the original sensor, then you may have something else that needs attention.

It's possible that wasn't the original MAF in there. I've owned the car since 2008. Since then there isn't much I haven't repaired or maintained (with the exception of the EZK, LH and MAF) to the point where I'm really happy with the mechanicals now. Cosmetics are hopefully next, but I want to be reasonably sure that as you say, there isn't something else going on.

Thanks again!
