I noticed my oil pickup looks different from the one pictured in the "Blown/damaged headgasket" thread (Thanks Petza914 for the picture). I remove3d my oilpickup to clean it up but I noticed my pickup doesn't have a sieve on the bottom. It looks totally. It doesn't have the drum shaped part on the end. My pickup doesn't look like it's been tampered with either. Is this normal or should I try to find the drum shaped part with sieve? it is not a separate part # as far as I can see in the PET.
My car is a 1978 4.5L car.

the pickup shown is normal for an early car
it is designed to work with the mesh screen and clover leaf in the early pan

The Forgotten On

Pickups were in these groups:

78-79 with the pickup sealing on the bottom of the cloverleaf insert

80-82 with the pickup sealing on the sides of the cloverleaf insert

And 83-95 with a simple mesh screen and no more insert.

Interesting info. So I probably have all 3 types currently sitting in my garage - the style shown in the 1st post here sealed up in my 79 4.5L, the newer style that seals on the sides that I just installed into the 4.7L last night, and the newer style with the mesh screen that was in the 4.7L pan when I removed it. 2nd & 3rd photos shows the 80-82 style disassembled.
