Question Timing Belt Rollers - Two Questions

I am in process of doing a T Belt R and R on my 86 (early) USA car. Its the 4th time since I've owned the car (bought in 1993) but last time was in 2007 (less then 10 k miles ago) but my memory is not good on question #2 below. Question #1 is general. Two questions / comments

1. I removed the three old rollers and took off the seal from the bearings out of curiosity and noted on large roller that the grease inside was basically like black dust that was clumping. Are these bearings usually completely full with grease under the seal? The other rollers grease was not clumped like the large roller but did not have much grease in them. The photo makes it look like the bearings are galled; they are not. The roller rotated smoothly w/o noise, grinding or movement before I took it apart. The "galling appearance" is actually the black grease that is clumped

2. Is the circa-clip the only thing that keeps the roller from rubbing on the tensioner? I just cannot remember. Yes I do have WSM and even a 9201 to tension the belt - need to look again at WSM / Wayne's write up - just asking

86 928 Roller

And this is why it's the rollers and not the belt that *really* need to be changed.

86 928 Roller
Yup. If you forget to transfer the c-clip to the new roller, the roller will walk in the carrier and result in premature belt wear.

Bearings are never completely full of grease. they are typically filled 1/3 to a maximum of 2/3 the volume capacity. Generally speaking the baster the bearing will spin the lower the volume of grease.
