Default porken lift bars

I found these, ad says 78 - 86. Can anyone tell me if they will work on MY 86.5?
Does any body notice anything wrong with them from looking at the pics?

Thank you in advance,
JD

Those are 78 to 86.0

Your car has a different configuration for the jack pads than the earlier cars, so need the later style lift bars. that doesn't seem to be that much of a deal either, unless they are local. Ken sells the new style liftbars, that work on all years of 928s for $239. Shipping will add approximately $75 though.

OK, thanks for the help. They are local and came with extra stands (which I dont need) but saving 79 bucks on shipping would have been worth it.

Always make sure you have the right style liftbars for your car. Here is what almost happened to me: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...car-today.html.

Thanks for attaching that link Ed. That was a worth while thread to read. This is why I asked and assumed wrong even after reading Kens site. You would think the body style being the same, the lift points would be as well with the change in 87. Thanks again guys.

One of the visual cues to identify an 86.5 is the square rear jack point. Same as the S4. Not sure why it was done that way, but it's part of the change in suspension, brakes & exhaust that made the 86.5 different.

That's why the two styles of older liftbars fit either the 86.5 and S4 or 86.0 and earlier. Not both.

Even at retail price, with shipping, they are worth it. I have two sets; one for my 928 and 996. Not as good as a lift, but once you get used to using them, you'll never want to work on your car without them.

I am anxious to get a set. Curious what are the tallest jack stands anyone has used with these? ( with the obvious safety considerations) I think my jack will raise about twenty inches. I dont like to max out a stand so a larger size with a larger foot print is what I would like, but how wide before it becomes an obstruction?

I tested all the way up to 12-ton stands (the ends are sized to fit these). It was waaaayyy up there.

Can't lift it up that high in one step. Have to put the car on 6-ton stands, first.

Good info straight from the source. I will be ordering some as well as getting things ready for a set of your chips too. Thank you Ken.

Yes; per Ken, I lift in stages o get the cars up safely. I recently bought a quick jack scissors lift, but I'm going to hag onto the liftbars for now.

Scary. I've been using a ramped stack of pinned 2*12's to work underneath the car. If something happens that can crush solid wood then I have far larger problems in my life to deal with, like the fact that the gravitational constant has gone haywire.
