I hear the stories about the things commonly wrong on new Porches today, and I think the people that whine about 928 maintenance, press or in -here-, have no idea how good we have it.

Since we've already hijacked polecat's thread...

If pictures are worth 1000 words, then that picture, above, of the Macan, explains the pending demise of the internal combustion engine-equipped vehicle.

95%-ish of that lump on the lift can be replaced by a battery pack, one big electric motor and a couple of smaller electric motors.

Due to the confluence of government regulations, legal issues, and market-driven requirements ICE vehicles have reached a level of systems complexity that's unsustainable when viewed from a cradle-to-grave vantage.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I found this - I'll need to upgrade a fuel line, but no more singed body parts and cursing.

I bet you can. Better yet buy used one from 928Intl and go for it.

Oh... there will be cursing. But it’ll be concentrated at install:
- it is a lot of ‘fun’ to pass the port and threaded plate through the rubber firewall grommet
- your charging hoses are, now, too short
- the GTS factory r134a port is very finicky about to which hose adapters it will seal with well

Lots of inconvenience fitting that new part compared with the once-every-N decades between inconvenient hose-disconnect episodes. Even if you end up connecting the suction hose with the engine cold, then starting the engine for whatever you need to do, then letting it cool off before disconnecting the hose, still WAY easier than fabricating a port adapter and welding it to the suction line near the expansion valve. Just sayin... Make sure the solution is really an improvement worth the effort.

To paraphrase JFK: "We choose to retrofit GTS fuel coolers on to S4's not because it is easy, we choose to do it because it is hard"

For now it goes on my shelf while it waits for its turn. Most of the work I do on my 928's is to see if I can do it - which explains my stroker adventure.

When the threads fall off the cooler 'cause the last Gorilla Technician used 4 foot cheaters, it is an improvement. Before that? Probably not.

You didn't hijack my thread Dave. You've given some valuable advice as always. That's why I started this thread. Thanks!!!!

Mark ,will probably have a run on GTS fuel coolers. He should thank too!!

Joe--

Expert welder needed to attach R134a suction fittings to suction lines on non-GTS coolers to the expansion valve.

Know any good welders?

Save your arms and pick up a set of these. Makes dealing with that low side port a breeze on a hot car.
