You'll love that C5 Z06 trans compared to the OEM 5-speed - I know I do - completely changes the performance of the car by not having to shift slowly, double-clutch, or worry about grinding gears - that's how my trans was even though I don't think that's really normal behavior for a proper 928 transmission, but even working properly, they are balky. The gears in the Z06 are so much taller that you can hold the gears longer and like you said, they're better matched to increased power. I run 2,000 RPM at 85 MPH in 6th gear with this setup. Between it and the supercharger, I can't determine which is the best mod.

Am I to assume you also have a renegade swap on your car? Or did you pair the tranny with a tricked out stock Porsche motor . Good time to swap shocks out to I’m guessing? Do you take your car to any shows?

No, my car is a '79 K-Jet with the 4.5L motor and then a Stage 2 (heat exchanger) 928 Motorsports Supercharger installed onto it and the blower has some upgrades - lightweight billet impeller, vented case, stronger belt, better bearings, etc However, I recently blew the head gasket on that 4.5L due to an overheating event and am in the process of replacing it with a 4.7L version I've acquired, but reusing my 4.5L cams as they have higher lift and longer duration, and moving my K-Jet fueling and supercharger setup over to it. The mating of the Z06 6-speed was made possible by a conversion kit offered by 928MS and they actually did the conversion for me a couple years ago - dropped it off on a Monday and picked it up on a Thursday afternoon.

Here's the heart of the beast.

And what it looks like right this minute

4.7L being worked on

4.5L being taken apart

WOW, that's cool. I bet it's a blast. Glad you bought it that way as a 5speed GTS is now too valuable to do that to.
