Default Combination switch OBC stalk loose

all function of my combination switch work properly, but the stalk for my computer control (lower left stalk, below turn signal) is a bit wobbly or loose. the part is NLA, but wondering if there is a bushing inside, or something that can be done to tighten it up.

I remember that I had this same problem on the same stalk.

I know that I fixed it but don't remember exactly what I did. But I remember it wasn't a big job.

A loose screw or something like that maybe.

I would suggest to remove the steering wheel and take a look.

Like I said, it was an easy job so might just be a loose screw or something like that.

Removing the steering wheel is quite easy. Just be careful with the airbag.

First, you need to disconnect the battery and wait a least 20 minutes (I would wait two hours to make sure!) before disconnecting the airbag.

If you need help (instructions) to remove the steering, just let me know. I took few pics when I removed mine.

Hi Bertrand. Could you post those photos and a short tutorial? I am going to need to do this at some point soon and they would be very helpful I'm sure.

+1 …...and can this fix be done with the switch in place, or must it be removed from the column?

That whole stalk is a bolt on extra to the earlier 3 stalk combo switch So depending on what is wrong - if its just the attachment to the main switch you can probably tighten that without removing the combo switch. Even if you need to replace that switch I think you may be able to remove just the computer stalk and unplug it without removing the whole combo switch... worth a try. Getting the steering wheel and combo switch surround off is pretty quick and easy.

Here we go!

If you see anything that can be add, don't hesitate.

1) Disconnect the negative battery cable (13 mm key). Wait at least 20 minutes before removing the air bag. To make sure, I wait 2 hours. But that's me!

2) This is the tools you'll need.

3) Remove both torx bolts behind the steering wheel. One on each side.

4) Now, you can pull out the air bag.

5) Use the flat screwdriver to disconnect the 2-pin connector. Make sure to mark the wire coupler for proper reinstallation.

Be very careful with the air bag. Don't drop it. Store it with wire connections facing down to the ground.

6) Now you can remove the 24 mm nut.

7) Once the nut is removed, mark the position of the steering wheel and the shaft before you lift it off. BTW, marks on this picture are not good.

8) Pull out the steering wheel.

Unfortunately, I don't have a picture (for now) of the combination stalk in place.

I'll take a look this week and get back to you.
Like I said, I remember it was not a big job to tight things up. Quite sure I left the stalk in place.
But I'll know for sure with the steering wheel removed.

Here's few threads on air bag steering wheel removal.

problem solved!

after following Bertrand's write up to remove air bag (T30) and steering wheel, remove the 4 phillips screws holding the clamshell front cover, and then 2 additional smaller phillips screws for the clamshell itself. you will see the OBC stalk is held in by a T15 screw. tighten that up and stalk is nice and secure; its only been bothering me for about a year. took less than 20 minutes to fix. no need to remove combination switch.
