79 Steering rack...Other years fit?
In the process of re-building my steering rack, It's out and on the bench but now the inner tie-rods are both stuck. Not sure what to do next? heat? I have read that it may have red loctite and heat is needed to loosen. That sound right?
Secondly, I've been looking around and can't find a rebuilt/refurbished unit for my 79 for less than $495. anyone have a line on something a bit less expensive? or will other years which are more plentiful fit/work?
Thank in advance

I think there are basically two types, early and late. You can cross them, but there are also some spacers that have to change. If you don't change the spacers as well then the total travel of the rack will be wrong. On my '88 I ordered a late rack and received and early rack, and shipping is super expensive where I am, so I just used it. At first I did not change the spacers, and it worked, but the minimum turning radius was increased to the point that you could not do U turns in spaces where you might expect to be able to.
On your rebuild, start by inspecting the rack gear (the big shaft that goes all the way through). If it is pitted in the seal area your rebuild may not work.
Oops, reading again, I am not clear if you are rebuilding or replacing your rack. If the rack gear is in good shape you can get a rebuild kit and rebuild it yourself.
