94' GTS AT skipping 2nd gear... from what I can tell

Well, we found out what was wrong. The B1 only has one job... and that's 2nd gear. You will see in the photo that the teflon ring that is a hard (white in color) seal for this was mangled during insertion. This has a special lip on it as well to sit in it's home so should've stayed on but clearly didn't.
Greg mentioned that this can be difficult to install and as you can see by the special tool they used to remove it that's its under quite a bit of force.... so in a shop without this tool or someone that isn't skilled they may not know it was damaged when they built it.
The problem that it caused was for the clutch discs to slip (due to lack of pressure) so all of the clutches and metal rings in that housing for B1 clutch were damaged prematurely and will need to be replaced. Most other items all look good.
I want to thank Greg and his son for taking a few minutes to strip it down so I could see but also to clear his mind as to what could be the cause of my symptoms as mentioned in this thread.
She'll be good as new upon return and also the torque tube and PSD/rear end will be gone through to ensure everything is in good shape.
Cheers,
Bryan

Of course, this would be impossible to occur in a correctly assembled transmissuin, which is why I've never seen this. That Teflon piston seal could never get out of the groove for the ring, once installed.
Which means this occurred on assembly and has been this way for the thousand miles this car has been driven, since the transmission was "rebuilt"
The shop had to know something was wrong and spend time trying to "solve" this issue
How the car starts in 1st and skips 2nd gear is a mystery. I'm going to have to inspect the valve body very carefully. However, I'm almost certain that they must have jumped the full throttle kickdown to accomplish this trick....I don't see any possible way for the valve body to know that 2nd gear is bypassing the fluid sent to activate it.

Update!
Update: Well... it's been awhile but Greg was able to go through the rear differential and rebuild along with the PSD. The trans (even though rebuilt before) needed a lot more than originally expected. There were many things that weren't fixed or replaced when it was rebuilt so if you are quoted $1,700 (even if you walked it into them) run away fast!!!!
I have it roughly mounted to torque tube again along with under carriage. Here is a few pics of the process along with where it sits today. Thank you to Greg and his son at Precision for taking such great care of me and the trans/tube. We rebuilt the torque tube as well with a very cost effective way which after the trans/diff invoice I was happy to hear there were cost effective solutions out there for the torque tube...

update.
Haven't been able to update in sometime. She has been in now for a few weeks and runs great. I can't believe I drove this around without 2nd gear... probably the most important gear for performance there is.
Great job by Greg and his son and my brother in law for helping me with most of the teardown and install. She's a completely different car and now basically a new one as well. Last pic was on the alignment rack after to make sure all went back together well.

Thank you guys!! Paint correction then ceramic coating did an amazing transformation to the paint. Almost looks like it was repainted. I would recommend to anyone as long as place is competent and well reviewed.
Well worth the extra $$ Also, 3m coated entire hood, fenders, bumper, lower side skirts and behind rear wheel after.

Kevin, forgot to add that... they did after paint correction so now it looks brand new and will for a long time coming. I didn't think of that, they did it for me!!! Was a nice addition while their already doing much more and didn't charge any more either.

For all the things wrong inside that transmission, I still marvel that only second gear didn't function.
That thing was like a test....to see if someone could find all the problems.
Glad it works! Every once in awhile I get lucky.

The golfing world used to accuse the South African golfing legend Gary Player of being "lucky". When challenged about this by a top media correspondent he replied "Indeed I am lucky and you know what?- the more I practice the luckier I get".
